I have a 49 cc scooter that I brought back from Australia, over there tax and insurance was 50 euro for the year.

Is it possible to insure the bike for the summer months and how much would it cost?

I dont want to use it in winter.

Tax on a 49cc machine is 37 euros for the year I don't think you can just pay for a few months.

As for insurance, the cost will depend largely on your age, gender and location.

I've never heard of just having 3 months cover, but I guess you could take out a year's insurance and cancel after 3 months, you should get the balance (less an administration fee) back.

The only bike insurers in the country are AON, Carol Nash and Quinn Direct.

Bringing in the bike might be a hassle also - even if you've owned for years in Australia you've got to prove that, with bank records etc.

I wouldn't have though bringing a small bike like that all the way over here (with shipping costs and all) would have been worth it? when they're pretty cheap to buy here anyway.

thanks for the reply, I have the bike here, I was bringing 2 containers ( cars and all) so fitting the scooter in was not any thing more. I rang up about the insurance a while back and it was 500euro third party only- I pay 400 fully comp on a 911 carerra (classic) so dont want to pay 500 for something Ill only do 3-400 km on.

Be prepared NOT to pay just 50 EURO for insurance. Be prepared for rip-off Ireland!

In Germany you pay 1.84€ tax for each 25ccm (3.68€ per year for a 50cc scooter!) and min insurance is 53,95 € per year with up to 100 million € (!!!) insurance coverage! And of course no matter how old you are and where you live!

You don't believe it? Here is the link: http://www.roller-kennzeichen.de/pramien.php

I guess it's probably the no experience bit.

It will go down to half (or less) if you've had a year on it, the quotes will also vary widely between the 3 insurance companies.
