What's the story on getting a refund on your unused credit on Eazypass? I am thinking of doing the same as yourself.

    Had a look there now..

What's the total monthly charge? €0.50 a month for toll use with a purchased tag seems VERY cheap. There's mention of an Administrative charge and a €30 sign-up fee too?

I joined up this morning. The 30euro is to buy the tag instead of renting.
I am going with the prepaid option which should suit me. They will debit my account when I reach a minimum balance. Will let you know how I get on .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 440 ✭✭towger

I don't know if easypass give a refund ... they should ... but if they don't I guess you can cancel the Direct Debit and use up your remaining credit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 416 ✭✭tvr

What do you get a reducation in the cost of the tolls or what , or is 30 euro sign up plus you still get charge the standard toll or do you get a reduction or what?

Can't seem to get a definitive answer looks good , do you only ever have 1 tag in your car ie.. you dont have to change this tag or what and if you buy the tag now for 30 euro you get tolling for 50 cent instead of 1.60 euro. Is that correct?? Or is it 30 euro sign up plus 50 cent monthly charge plus full toll charge. Which makes it not so good of a deal?

Anyone else think they should have not designed their site using photoshop cant read the bloody text.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 62 ✭✭38psi

From what I can gather the 30eruo is a once off fee to buy the tag, then the 50 cent is a monthly admin fee the usual toll fee apply.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,220 ✭✭✭✭Lex Luthor

€30 is a bit steep...can't remember the easypass one being that much

I think I'll just stick with easypass...I only ever use the M50 & M1 bridges most of the time...I'll find the change for the others and since they are not that busy, the electronic lanes are not that much of an advantage

Think the €30 is only if u buy your tag. If you buy it the monthly charge is 50c plus the tolls you use.
You can rent the tag for €1 a month plus the tolls u use. (easypass is also €1 a month)
So if your going to use the tag for more than 5 years its cheaper to buy otherwise cheaper to rent.
Don't think there us a start up fee if you decide to rent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,201 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

So really then the only advantages are that it saves you digging for change and you can use the electronic lanes? And to balance that you either pay €30 upfront or €1 a month - no savings on the tolls themselves to encourage you to sign up?

Am I right? The site is about as clear as mud, but seems poor value if so....

Thats what it looks like.I think i will just keep the easypass.Hassle free

So correct me if I'm wrong....because I can't find page 18 anywhere with the charges

€30 charge for the tag up front plus €0.50/month for 'life'
    or
    €1/month rental for life?

if thats the case, only after 5yrs do you start getting better value for money if you buy

either way, eazypass or etrip costs more than using conventional lanes to pay for tolls. The reason more people haven't taken up on it is because of this I would imagine. You get penalized for making life easier for the toll booth operators

Thats the meaning I get from the web site as well.

€1 a month isn't that bad of a charge for the convience. If you used it twice a day for a month (assume 20 working days) that comes to €76 for the tolls on the west-link. An extra €1 is only an additional 1.3% which isn't bad seen as you don't have to have change ready and you can use the express lane.

    Def considering getting one myself.

actually what you are really paying for is the convenience.
the admin fees are cheaper than eazy pass.
i am a customer myself and i got it mainly for the car parks because i work in town. its just so handy i am using it for trials in setanta car park which means that i can leave my car there all day
and then when im travelling the toll rolls its just great. not having to fumble around with change its just really convenient.
the price isnt too steep i dont think.

    its just really really handy.

i am currently an eTrip user and find the eTrip tag to be much more conventient than the eazypass tag, with regards the price of the eTrip tag, the administrative charges are cheaper while currently being free for the first 6 months to the first 500 users that sign up to the new tag, of which i was one!

also, its much easier to be able to travel on all toll roads with one tag rather than using a tag on some raods and cash on others!

    i love convenience!!

Wow, look at that, two new boards users (holy----crap & bob101) who just signed up and think this new eTrip system is great. A bit suspicious methinks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 893 ✭✭✭I.S.T.

BTW, I think this monthly charge is a joke. They are gaining business by getting people to sign up for this. The customers should be getting a discount on the tolls, not paying for the "privelage" of using the system.

    sorry your so cynical.
    but it is great.
you cant deny it. it has saved me so much money from leaving my car in the car park.

How come you and bob101 both joined boards today and both speak so highly of the system? Are you the same (marketing) person? Do you work for or have any connection with eTrip?

    haha ever hear of coincidence?
    guess not.
i speak so highly of them because i have a only experience good things.

Thats a laugh................well done for rooting them out !

Anyway...............I've been looking at the eTrip site, its terrible but the system seems pretty good. I do think there should be more of a discount incentive though, like easypass, but I might rent one anyway. I am not a frequent user but find I rarely have change on me or its in the boot or something ! Not having to look for change it may be worth it to rent a tag !
(If I could find out exactly what it would cost me  )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

monthly charge does seem like a bit of a balls tbh.. I got a passdirect for the M8 Fermoy bypass and I can use it at any toll in the country (M50 having come on to the system in the last few weeks). I think there's also a discount on tolls, although I cant remember how much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 893 ✭✭✭I.S.T.

Why is everyone going on about rooting for change? The cashiers always have change if you only have notes and it's as fast as going through any other lane.

Waht if you don't have any notes at all? I rarely carry cash of any variety.

    interesting pricing structure...

service charge for toll and or parking. But when renting the tag - toll and parking is 1.5 per month (while toll and parking long are 50 cents each)..

and for the port tunnel you need a different tag.... so still not the "one tag that serves them all".

Also the most important question I have have at the moment - what do I need to do when the new barrier-free tolling gets introduced next year (or whenever they actually manage).

Why buy a new tag that won't work on that commuter route in a years time.

    Has any1 heard anything?

@MercMad: What incentive scheme does Easypass have? I'm not aware of any...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 62 ✭✭38psi

Barrier free tolling will only be on Westlink ?? plenty of other toll roads left also the car parks coming on stream

I received my e-tag today with the instructions for installing. There is a small slit in the dark grey holder, through the slit I can see a piece of metal. On the light grey piece there is a sticker with a number on it. If I follow the instructions sent & stick it to the windscreen the slit with metal, and the sticker with the number will be facing the inside of the car & the number on the sticker will be upside down. Is this the way it should be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72,194 ✭✭✭✭L1011

the slit is the hole for the 'speaker' for the beep to let you know the tag worked / failed horribly. This faces you, as does the sticker. The flat plane faces out.

Upside down or not doesn't matter. If the flat blank side faces in it WILL matter and you'll likely not get through the M4 at all (I made this mistake first time around in my old car :o)

Thanks !! I will find out on Monday at the M1 toll whether I hit the barrier or not !!!
