There are a whole spectrum of differing interrelationhsip between people other than one night stands and monogamy. Broadly speaking:

One night stand: fun with no involvment, you dont really get to know the partner

Friends with benefits: Fun. no involment, but you do get to know the partner

Polyamoury: Emotional involvement with more than one partner. you know em very well.

Primary open: one primary partner emotional involvement, fun play with no involvement with others to set rules.

Lifestyle: Couple/ couple/ goup. No emotional involvment.

Monogamy: serial / permanent. Varying amounts of emotional involvement.

Probably many more as well!
People may do one, some, all or none of these. Depending on their own views, stage of life or desires, whihc can change over time.
As long as they are happy doing what they are dong its perfectly ok to do any.
Personally i at this point in my life, am happy with knowing and emotional involvement

Every time I make love to my partner is always exciting like the first time...then again I am only going out with her a year...but that's still a long time i think and as long as they don't change physically (for the worse) i don't see how it can affect me.

personally i prefer having a boyfriend..imo sex with someone who cares about you and knows what you like is much better!!!i dont care much for one night stands. your friends are definately wrong to say that ppl who are settled are missing out on fantastic sex!!!!!!

Personally the one night stand thing is not so appealing to me. That said i still have them from time to time, but it's rarely very gratifying, or remotely satisfying. I don't feel bad or guilty or any of that garbage afterward, but it just seems like a lot of effort for very little return. In a lot of cases I find girls immediately starting trying to guilt you into going out with them, as if you owe them for sleeping with you.

At any rate, I think sex is probably better with a partner you know, someone you trust, however I submit that this could be someone you know and trust but are not encessarily involved with romantically.

Nothing wrong with one night stands as long as you're careful. I've had them. Not a lot though really. I think I just prefer sex when I'm in a relationship. I wouldn't have a one night stand again. Mostly I just find them pointless and unfulfilling. In saying that though, I have had one nighters that were just what I needed at the time and enjoyed them. They can be fun.

They were allways fun.. but in a relationship you really get time to learn how to push someones buttons. To be honest I think your mates are a bit full of crap, and possibly a tad jealous, I can not imagine they are constantly having "fantastic" sex with people they meet maybe a couple of hours before, and they all happen to be studs in bed.. or else they are easily pleased ? I dunno.

Fun yes, ocassionally fantastic yes, but nothing like getting to really really know someone in bed.

My own personal opinion obviously..

I don't think the one is better than the other: Depends really on what you're in the mood for. Some people need the stability and comfort of a relationship, some don't and are quite comfortable with playing it loose. Eventually the lure of playing the field will wear out, and the relationship bug will kick in anyway.

In hindsight, I don't think I played around enough before I got married...
