I've no idea how to go about it, basic photo and text is all I need. Any tips on software or templates etc? Also, is printing on or on round CD stickers tricky?

Nero has CD Cover software with its burning program.

Many printers today have CD printing trays for printing onto those printable disks. Canon in particular springs to mind. As for sleeves, anything should do, but as Ruu has pointed out, Nero is a great place to start for ease of use.
