New Graphics card problem

I put in a Nvidia 7300 graphics card but have been having a problem with it. when I have over four tables going for a while the Pc cuts out I get a blue screen telling me there's a problem with recently installed hardware. I'm very bad at techy stuff but I think its overheating.

has anyone encountered a similar problem or any idea's

try and update the drivers for the card. I had a similar problem after i replaced my card once. I just took it out again cleaned the card and slot put it back and updated everything and havnt had a problem since

Also make sure the card has breathing space around it. Might cause overheating otherwise.

I have an ATI x1800 GTO going cheap if you need a replacement. Decent card I used for games up to recently. It can play most recent games so multi-tabling poker would be no skin off it's back. Anyway let me know and I'll bring it to Drogheda.

muso I may well take that card of your hands if the price is right?
    will it run two screens?

Well it has 2 DVI connectors which I assume means it will. Never tried it mind.

I'd assume the card came with software so drivers might not be the problem?
How old is the PC and do you know what output the PSU is? From my quick google it needs a 350 W power/psu supply... and from your description that might be the problem.

Go to nvidia.com and get the latest drivers (be sure of what you are doing or get someone who does know). I'm presuming its not a lappy. If you want to bring it to Drogheda, I can have a look at it there if you are desperate!

Sounds like power, drivers or overheating. 2 out of 3 of those are not good news.

cheers for the replies gents I'm honestly totally clueless with this sort of stuff. I downloaded new drivers about a week ago but no joy donk know if it was the beta one so ill check later.

a mate installed the card for me but he is no expert

my Pc is about 20months old its a dell dimension think i paid about 1100 for it

the card I bought for €85 ( should i get a more expensive one)

btw the two monitors work fine until i open a lot of tables so feel its a over heating thing. Dev is this bad ?

my solution so far has been to open the pc covers and windows in the room  it takes longer to cut out when i do this

Where you attach the power lead. The big box inside... it has data on it relating to its capacity. xxxW Max. What are the xxx? you need 350 at least.

Oooh might want to consider an upgrade Nicky. That Power supply could well be your problem.

Well I'd go with vista Home Premium while I was at it. That page doesn't seem to allow you to go for no monitor though.

It's entirely possible that you could add to the PC you already have but it might be more hassle than it's worth.

Is the res on that 22in good enough for fourtabling poker?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 991 ✭✭✭ZZR1100

If your thinking of buying a new PC go to meshcomputers.co.uk rather than dell .much cheaper and higher specs.for 3 monitor setup you need a graphics card with 3 dvi outlet(Matrox i think ).Better to get 2 nvidias SLi which will allow up to 4 monitors

open up the pc, like you already have and leave the covers off.

take out the fan and clean it out, with 20 months of use there will be all kinds of crap in it.

i had a similar problem and cleaning the fan will help but its usually not the cause of the problem. I'd say theres a problem with your power supply.

Open up the power supply unit and examine the circuit board for any shorts etc. If your not confident doing this get someone in to do it for you.

cleaned the fan, power supply check is a little over my head. did a bit of research about replacing the psu but it seems dell are not compatible with many standard psu's and put in the wrong one the pc blows up:D
