I have spent some time checking out various models of LCD TVs and the more checking I do the harder it gets.

Basically I plan to go weither with a Tosh or a Samsung.
Does anyone know how Samsung manage their model numbering. I think I have the Tosh line sussed at this stage.
However w.r.t samsung I cannot figure out what the latest models are or how old other models are

    eg which is better

    LE 32 R87 BDX
    LE 32 R82 BDX
    LE 32 R74 BDX
    LE 32 R41 BDX

Also what is the difference between LE and LN - none?

BD = digital DVB-T tuner built in

The variations in Samsungs displays are many as they produce the same display for different regions and give it a different model number, also minor alterations or improvements even down to just a change in the casing generate a new model number.

Generally the oldest displays in Samsungs lines are usually the cheapest ones e.g two 32" displays one selling for €800 and the other is €1300 the more expensive model is the latest one in the line.

The best place to see the latest panels is on the Samsung Germany & Samsung Sweden sites as they always have the latest panels listed though may not have all of the displays in their archive so you have to hunt other Samsung regional sites for the correct link.

The primary difference in the newer displays are better brightness, more contrast and UI tweaks with a few other features thrown in like dual HDMI and SDCard readers.

Of the displays you list the 32" R87 appears to be the best of the lot though the R86 is the same display just with a different style casing.

Thanks for this feedback. This gives me a better steer as to what I should be looking at.
How important is the DVB-T tuner as it seems to add a bit to the price of the model

Read on another thread that the digital tuner won't work in Ireland after a few months, so not worth purchasing if thats true

The DVB-T tuner is only compatible with MPEG-2 broadcasts which are what the majority of DVB-T services are using.

The ongoing trial in Ireland is also using MPEG-2 but there is also talk that it will use MPEG-4 AVC at one point as well. Whether that will happen or not I cannot say but if it did as some say in the TV forums then it would probably be a pay for HD service.

Doesn't really matter either way with the built in tuner as you will be able to pick up STB's or plug in CAM's with DVB-T support for whatever service in the long run.

    Thank 8t8.
I am starting to veer back towards a Tosh as there are some keen prices on ebay for the 37 WLT 66.

Trying to pick a new LCD has almost turned me bipolar. Time to just make a decision
