Age of discovery of powers

Some Heroes have had their powers, or at least known abt them since they were pretty young

Claire could heal since she was a baby, and the Hatian's been able to clean memories since his early teens, if not earlier. Micah and Molly have their powers, and are good at usin them

Then most of the others didnt discover their powers til later in life, like Nathan realised he could fly in the car crash, and Hiro in his office. Matt discovered his ability when he found Molly Walker, I dont think he could have that ability his whole life and not know abt it.

Do ye think theres anything that 'd effect this, or its just somethin that happens?

    I don't think so. Although Claire reckoned that was the reason why she survived, there's tonnes evidence to suggest otherwise;

    1. It was her mother who caused the fire in the first place. It's likely she would have put the baby somewhere safe before blowing up the place.

    2. The company collected her from the place, but didn't know if she had a power. They gave it to Bennet specifically to keep an eye on her.

    3. In "Six Months Ago", Claire cut her hand on a pane of glass (and it appeared to hurt). It didn't instantly heal, and they wrapped it in a bandage. It was only soon after that it stopped hurting, and had quickly healed itself.

    4. Kids cut, bump and bruise themselves on a weekly basis. If Claire's power was always there, both she and Bennet would have had to have noticed it years ago. We know that Claire didn't notice it. Maybe Bennet did, maybe he didn't.

There doesn't seem to be any set rule about the age. In general terms, people whose parents don't seem to have had a power, don't manifest until later in life. People whose parents do have a power, manifest earlier in life.

Nathan realised he could fly in the car crash, and Hiro in his office.

Hiro actually knew about it at least on the subway before we even see him. We're told it was 15 seconds late, when subways never run late.

All good points save for your first one: Her mom was convinced she was dead. this was a major point - You dont put your daughter somewhere safe and assume her dead.

I'd argue though that Claire's power was (like natural immunity in Real Life) much stronger as an infant. Also you have to take in severity of injury into consideration: Being burned alive seems like a biggie. Brusing your head on the coffee table? Not so much. Who knows, maybe she never cut or bruised and her parents never thought anything of her lack of injury
"Honey, I'm worried: she never seems to get cut, she bumped her head off the coffee table last week and there wasnt a bruise - Dear, I think we may be dealing with SUPER POWERS!!!"

    gimme a break.
also you don't know how long bennet knew of claires inherit ability. All we know is that he has known since minute one of Volume One. He could have been monitoring the situation for years. Even the chapter 6 Months Ago: he looked slightly startled but mostly worried at the glass cut, but you still cannot say for sure how long he has known.

Indeed, I saw that in "distractions" too.

Well 6 months ago is really the strongest piece of evidence IMO. Both Claire and her father looked shocked at the cut *and* it didn't heal immediately as they have done since.
I also don't believe that Claire herself could have gone 16 years without noticing that her own cuts heal up straight away :)

The missing piece is really the fire/explosion at her mother's. If she didn't have powers, then there's probably no way she could have survived. If she did have powers, then everyone would have noticed way before now - seriously, when I say kids cut themselves all the time, I mean *all* the time.
