    Dear VOTER
I really need your support TODAY.
Please give me your NO. 1 VOTE.
    Thanks.
    MOLLY BUCKLEY

    What the fcuk's this sh!t!!!!!!
Just got it text to me.

That sort of rubbish would make me vote for anyone BUT Molly Buckley.

I don't even know who she is.
(I've a company sim. The person I replaced was from Dublin, I'm not, so I'm assuming she's from there)

Is it just me that thinks this is very cheeky, or is it just another new normal way of canvassing?

Uh oh!!!! Only just saw the sticky now.
Sorry Nesf. Move / delete if necessary.

There's a thread on this in the General Election forum already. Turns out there's a few of them sending these txts.

    Lol, text back saying -

    Dear Molly Buckley.
If you text this number again I will burn you.
    Kind regards,
    Disinterested.

We got a letter banging of desperation from Roisin Shorthall on Monday. It went something along the lines of -

According to a recent poll, Fianna Fail are to take two of the three seats available and Sinn Fein (of all people) are to take the final seat. If you want to stop this sillyness, vote Shorthall #1! /cries.

How could a serious candidate put their name to something like that!
I know who I'd be giving that final seat to!! :D

You think thats bad? I had some cnut posting a "Vote No1 Today" leaflet for O'malley (limerick) through my door at 5.35am this morning. I would have chased him down the street only I was balls naked and wrapped in cling film....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,187 ✭✭✭Mrs_Doyle

I live in the same constituency as Connundrum. The Roisin Shorthall letter was just typed up on Roisin Shorthall Headed paper, and hand delivered to every house in the area.

My Dad works with a guy who is a member of Sinn Fein, even he got the Roisin Shorthall letter through the letter box.

I'm not sure what was going through her mind when she decided to send those letters out, but the whole thing just smacked of pure desperation!

You should report this person to the Data Protection Commissioner. Politicians are bastards alright, but resorting to spam is a new low.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,589 ✭✭✭Hail 2 Da Chimp

I agree with Cornbb, Some of the stories I have heard today are just ridiculous, as DrakJager said, a few of the people I work with were woken between 2-5am with junk mail, then when leaving the house there was a letter on the floor outside their door "Wake up to a new Ireland", and then being texted more of this spam. This is bordering on harassement. Not to mention all the campaign posters hung in illegal places. i.e. at a junction on a road blocking your view... Crazy stuff!

My reply was long and angry.

    Fcuk them!!!
Next time they'll be hassling us with phone calls.
    Enough's enough!!

I rang back the number, surprise surprise it rang out, but instead of going
to voicemail I got a message to say the mailbox was full and could not accept
    any more messages.

I rasng her home number and was told that there was some awful confusion and
    a mix up with databases.

They are looking into how my private number got on to a database and will give
an explination as soon as possible!

Some tosspot canvassing for Pat Carey called to my door on Wednesday night at 8:45 PM.

I just ignored the pamphlet he was trying to hand me, looked pointedly at my watch, then at him, and waited for him to get the message. He turned red and stammered an apology and quickly left.

I don't have a problem with them calling to the door at a reasonable hour...if they want to waste their time canvassing door to door, thats fine by me...if I don't want to answer, I wont.

But Jesus H....what kind of reaction do they expect at that hour of the evening ??

It's 8:45, its not exactly late. Would you prefer they called at 6:30ish, perhaps when you're just in from work and are trying to relax?

Also, regarding "wasting their time", just how informed on the candidates are you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,187 ✭✭✭Mrs_Doyle

I'm such a chicken shlt, I told my local Fianna Fail, Labour and Fine Gael candidates that they all had my No 1 vote.

As each one called to the door, and shook my hand, and looked at me, with those great big puppy dog (please vote for me) eyes, I just didn't have the heart to tell them where my No 1 Loyalty lay, so I lied to them all.

After the third candidate had called I doubled locked the porch so I didn't have to lie to any more of them.

some muppet knocked on my door for roisin shortall and i pointed out to muppet girl, that i had lived in the area for 3 years and i had never heard of this person until she decided to banners outside my house and i was going to show her as much interest as she had shown me and my area over the last three years, by completely blocking her out of my block and prentending she never exsisted - the it was a happy muppet that left my door that night

    Well done.

Actually, I'd prefer if they didn't call at all, but thats just me. But 6:30 would be fine, because I'm rarely home before 7:00 :)
Can you arrange that for me at the next election ? K, thx.

Seriously though, I beg to differ....you might be quiet happy to have unsolicited callers knocking on your door to tout the qualities of their candiate, but I'd politely suggest that I think you'd be in the minority. Putting my kids to bed, reading them a story and generally relaxing after my workday are much higher on my list of priorities.

And I'm as informed as I feel I need to be to make a rational decision as to who will get my vote.

I got it too & blogged about it. If I were in her constituency (I'm not, I'm 80 miles away from it), I wouldn't vote for her - and yes, purely because and this shite text spam...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,584 ✭✭✭shane86

A woman with a high pitched country accent rang me the other night to ask if I was voting, and if I was who for. I replied no, Id left registering too late, I then asked her where she got my number.

She hung up  Is calling people like this even legal? Im pissed that some company that holds my number has probably sold it on for spam texts and crap.

There is defeinitely an air of desparation at the moment. FIne Gael called to my house FOUR times last night, the last being after 11pm. I didnt open, but they still stuffed their rubbish through the letter box.

The worst I've had so far is one leaflet telling me that Minister X (FF) is 100% deffo going to get into office on the first count, so to balance that, vote Fine Gael No 1. How the f*ck do they know what the results of the election are going to be? I think it was a cunning ruse to try and trick people into voting for their party, on the assumption that seeing as yer other man is already in, I may as well vote for someone else. I'll be taking this up with them at the polling stations later.

They already spam your mailbox, why not your phone? :)

Locked since there's a thread on the General Election forum already.

Tbh, at least phone calls would have a bit more of a personal touch to them than random mailbox spammings!
