    * "We're probably not going to see CTU next season," Eric Balfour (Milo Pressman) says, echoing recent reports that the six-year-old drama is planning to "reinvent" itself. "Jack's going out in the field and they're moving locations. It's time for a new look and a change of scenery. That's another reason I thought Milo needed to get out of there." [2]

    * According to a T.V. Guide interview with Coexecutive producer Manny Coto, "Jack starts next season in a very different place than any season so far. Let's put it this way: I wouldn't be surprised if there's no CTU next year." He also says that "There will not be a ticking clock on a nuclear device. We're hewing much closer to real life: tighter, more personal, more difficult for Jack. There may even be a plot thread that doesn't take place on U.S. soil. In a sense, it's a reboot — in location and personnel. We're going to be introducing a new stable of characters, along with a couple of old ones. Jack's not living under an alias. He's found a place he thinks he belongs and a job he enjoys doing that doesn't involve the government. What's also refreshing is the choice of villain: It's not a Muslim terrorist. In fact, it's not a terrorist at all. And the character is fascinating, someone with a supremely dark past who's done something horrific and whose ambition is to regain his stature in the world."

    From Wiki

So no CTU, no terrorists, loads of new characters.... I know they've done most of the terroristy plots, but what else would they get out of it? Maybe Jack becomes a super-hero. Crossover to Heroes all the way! I call it "24 Heroes"

Sounds good, but can they sustain it and keep it interesting across 24 episodes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,114 ✭✭✭lukin

I'll believe all this when I actually see the first episode with my own eyes next January.
We've read this kind of speculation about a new season before and then when when it was actuallly screened, lo and behold, it was all a load of BS.
They once said CTU wasn't going to feature much in a new season (I think it was season four) and of course it didn't happen at all.
I'd say they are just putting out feelers to see what the reaction of 24 fans on fansites and general media will be. If there isn't a positive feedback they will ditch the idea and go back to the tried and tested formula of previous seasons.
I don't see how they could have a plot idea for next season already in their heads anyway, I mean the new season wouldn't even start filming for a good few months yet.

I dunno I think it could be true this time. I've heard conflicting rumors, first that it was Canadian terrorists (from this board I believe) and then I heard it was going to be set in London

Never know what to believe, but if they make good of their promise it can only be good for the show.

where does the movie come into all this?

And how would a mvie NOT ruin the whole real time concept???

They could say it is a movie based on 24?

Sounds good but we've heard it all before. They've made claims about things being radically different when in reality they've just repeated the same old stuff ad nauseum.

24 has suffered from Hollywood 'bigger, better' syndrome that you see a lot these days with film series like Star Wars, Spiderman, The Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as in various TV shows. Basically you get an initial film or series that is an unexpected hit, and so the sequels come along with the same premise only more special effects, more complicated plots and more baddies.

In terms of 24, season 1 had terrorists, twists and a major character death, so every season since has simply had more terrorists with more devastating weapons, more and bigger twists and more character deaths. The twists and character deaths lost all potency by their over-use, and the writers' insistence of re-using the same plot formula every season ruined any plausibility that the show had. Kim in season 2 - why? CTU in every season - why? Always in LA - why? Always a massive threat against national security - why?

The funny thing is the first 12 episodes of season 1 were among the best 24 episodes ever made and they had nothing to do with a massive terrorist plot to destroy America. It was just about Jack trying to prevent his family from being killed. The writing was tight and the show was a success because of that. Since then they've gotten lazy and relied on cheap plot twists and big explosions to keep people watching.

I'm pretty open minded when it comes to 24, I think a reinvention could be just what the show needs. I've said it before, as long as Jack's there, I'll watch it!

I'm hoping this is a reboot.. and would love to see it succeed. If you look at some of the longer running tv shows from the US, a reboot or reorganisation if done right has helped reinvigorate a tired format ( at least to some degree) Stargate springs to mean.. putting aside how that was finished off mid story (Ori) Making the focus about putting the team back together to begin with, the character reluctance and eventual acceptance made it a bit more interesting for us.

Granted they f*cked up the Asgard.. but the last two seasons created a new interest that wasn't there. On the flip side.. prison break lost something in S2 so we know it doesn't always work.. Bond rebooted ok :D

I'll always watch 24.. just for the Jack moments.. But I really do want to hang for every episode :)

I can definitely see very little of CTU next season. i think the 1st 6 episodes will be jack based then 7-18 will work in the crisis scenario and 19-24 will finish up on Jack

i wont be listening to much spec about season 7 for the reason being that everyone was so sure kims boyfriend barry was gonna be in season 6.........

    Michael Jackson surely.

A re-start is exactly what 24 needs, season 6 could have been great, but in the end it was just crap. A change of scenario and plot style would be great. It did look at the end of season 6 that most characters wouldn't be returning anyway so all new people shouldn't be a problem.

Must be a right pain in the arse for the writers having to pander to Fox morons (execs).

It's on digitalspy.co.uk as well under cult

    Good bit of info here:

    http://www.tv.com/story/9952.html?tag=story_list;title;6

    To summarise:
CTU gone but only officially (may turn into an underground organisation)
Will take place in Washington DC
Tony Almeida may still be alive (he was gonna be in an alternate ending to S6)

Also the producers hated season 6 and dosn't look like they plan on bringing back kim bauer anytime soon

Oh and movie definitly won't be considered till the series is completely wrapped up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,132 ✭✭✭silvine

That was very interesting. I especially liked the quips about Jack's magic bag. Thank Christ they didn't go with that ridiculous ending for season 6. I'm not sure why everyone is so mad to have Tony back. Leave the man where he is and move on.

It looks like Day 7 might actually be a different show to the previous few years. I'm hoping they pull it off.

Read much the same on Wikipedia's page on Day 7 as what grimm2005 posted. No more CTU, that is a bold step. And moving to Washington too, that sounds good as well.
The opening scene will have Jack facing a Senate Committee so that indicates he is going to be on the run from the law during the course of the season.

New left wing character played by Janeane Garofalo according to CNN here.

Also, according to the same article, Cherry Jones ( who the f*ck is Cherry Jones  ) i due to play the next president.

Season 6 was appalling. Though it had a better supporting cast than any of the other seasons. I have honestly lost interest after the disappointing sixth season.

That Janeane Garofolo was quite a hottie in her time, but she seems a strange choice for a show like 24. Interesting to hear Clinton slag off Surnow, I didn't know he had right-wing leanings, by that I assume he supports Bush and the war in Iraq. Not sure if I can watch 24 any more now I know that....

"Tony's uncertain fate near the end of 'Day 5' left the door open for his return," says executive producer/show-runner Howard Gordon.
"Uncertain fate"? He was zipped up in a body bag FFS!

    Stupidest 24 decision EVER!

Tony was a great character.. but this is just downright moronic!

lol...... who's next? George Mason or Ryan Chappelle?!
i can only imagine that we will see an ''evil Tony'' come back from the dead in a similar fashion to when Jack ''died'' at the end of Day 4 and take revenge on Jack for responsible for Michelle's death or something. Tony as a villain would probably be the only way for Tony to come back that would make some sort of sense even though Tony back alive full stop is still pushing it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,485 ✭✭✭Mr. K

For some reason, I thought the government might want Tony alive for some reason, so they helped fake his death. Kinda like Eraser! Anyone see that film?! Real bad stuff, "You've just been erased".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭qwertplaywert

Even though I would love nothing more than Tony still being alive, somehow I know hes gonna be a villian this season

Was he actually zipped up in a body bag? I remember him being injected by robocop and jack holding him,but don't remember him actually being put in a body bag. If that is true then it is really stupid!

I think I remember seeing the body bag being zipped up at the start of the following episode.

Series 7 will see Jack Bauer taking a flight from Ireland to Australia. The entire series will take place on the 24 hour journey and see stop offs in Heathrow and Singapore to get connecting flights

    I just made that up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,058 ✭✭✭Unearthly

I love 24 but i've never seen a show that reveals that the writers are not on top of things as much, well maybe Dream Team ;)

They'll have to come up with something genius to explain how Tony is alive and I don't think they will

    I need my fix :(

Nothing on telly is really peaking my interest...I need to watch PB s01 & s02 to get s03 ffs.

Heroes is poor so far but I was never 'that' into it.

Rescue Me is over for the season. boo.

A kick in the ass for 24 is badly needed after Day6 and I'm quite looking forward to Day7.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭unreggd

I'd say Tony is gonna be the villain

*No need t use spolier tags, i mentioned spoilers in the title!*

Maybe he's brainwashed or somethin, or just pissed cos the assassinations on Day 5 were because of him

Chloe will give birth to a nuclear bomb

    That sounds good. :p

Anyhow, just saw the teaser, wow, it's a threat against the nation!!!! omg!!!! Haven't seen that in the last 3 seasons! should be interesting!!!!

And Tony is back!! Nope, he didn't die really!!

    Tony is the new J.R.

They have lost all credibility by bringing anyone back who is meant to be dead. (and don't mention Jack faking his death, that was explained within the episode it occurred in. :p).

CTU is gone, so maybe we won't have to endure the 20 minutes per episode of CTU and protocols and sh1te filler and stock footage of season 6.

But still.. they have lost it.

Utter bollix. They missed their change. When Jack was taken by the Chinese, they show Jack escaping them in season 6, or for 6 - 12 episodes, have him escaping the submarine/boat he was taken on, Jack in China, etc, could of been interesting.

They just keep returning to type, and it's fúcking old.
And the JR-esq return of Tony?:eek::o:o:(:(:mad::(
