quarrys in Mayo

Under the 2004 quarry registration scheme, 104 illicit quarrys applied for registration here in Mayo. After much ado 60 or so achieved registration, with the othe 40 being listed as unauthorised developments. Part of this scheme allowed operators to make appeals to an bord plenala (those who made submissions were not allowed to make appeals, unlike normal planning legislation). a quick search of an bord pleanalas website shows 15 quarry appeals, 10 or so form this scheme (QY...). Others were told to apply for planning permission and are doing so.

So far MCC is draging its heals when it comes to enforcement. The guidelines stated that A Co Co did not have to wait for the registration scheme to finish in order to serve enforcement orders, reinstatement and fines.

The operator a short distance away from me was an unorthised development soon after his application for registration, but has not been stopped and is doing so well that he has now moved a stone crusher on site. The operator has now distroyed a deeply cleft limestone pavement, protected under 1992 EU legislation, with MCC in full knowledge. I guess this would have to be called negligence of the highest order. this is the second limestone pavement that MCC have allow to be distroyed to my immediate knowledge.

Does anyone know figures from other county councils of attemps to register and successful registrations???

It appears that Mayo is now going to be turned into a large hole.
