to work in a place where you have to were uniform or anything like that.
I would say its tough to get jobs in places like HMV, so does anyone know any sort of ''old school'' record stores?

Piece of cake, if you know your music you'll get in easy enough.

But what level of music knowledge do you need, like I know a good bit but like do you take a little test or something?

    (Dreaming of interview)
Interviewer: So Conor, whos your favourite band?
    Me: Eh, Angels and Airwaves
    Interviewer: Get Out!!!, Security!!!

Its actually really easy to get a job in a music store. The key to success is to be over 18, have a fairly decent leaving cert and be passionate about music. do mention on your CV how into music you are. also only hand a CV in if the shop is actually looking for staff (better still post it to the HR manager)- there will usually be a sign up if that is the case. Also, this time of year is not a good time because everyone who is in college that already works there is looking for more hours for the summer. september is ok but October/november is the best time to apply.
If you do get an interview, do dress as you would for any interview. don't think that because its a music shop you should dress casual. it gives a really bad impression.

I work in a music store and have to wear a shirt with the logo and take out all my facial piercings. So some of them are still strict, you can get a manager who wants you to dress to a code. It's not any different from any 'uniformed' job I've had.

Why do you refuse to wear a uniform? What other music are you into apart from Angels and Airwaves? I've found people who are into Angels and Airwaves and Blink 182 to be very musically ignorant to be honest.

Don't knock it till you've tried it.

What sort of work are you looking for?

Whats the big thing about not liking uniform's? it may well be me, but I can't help getting the feeling that you are a spoilt teenager?
Lot's of people have to wear uniforms, I'm one of them. and the mojority of them probabley would prefer not to have to wear one, but it goes with most jobs, they they just put up with it. Surely you can do the same.

Refusing to wear a uniform is a bit pointless tbh. If you're attempting to make some convoluted protest against conformity, then don't work at all, because working is the most conformist thing you can do in this world.

There are plenty of jobs you can get where you may need some form of uniform but don't have to cut your hair or take out piercings for example. If you want a job, then ignore the need for a uniform. Find a job that remotely involves your interests. What you wear is irrelevant. It's what you do that counts.

Thinking about it, the OP's age is pretty obvious. He's a child of the celtic tiger, if he was that bit older he'd remember a time when people would happily wear a clown suit, just so they had a job.

TBH While I've done it. I've never been all that keen on wearing a uniform or a suit for that matter.
