    Hi all
    Am hoping to purchase a digital camera but I have no experience of them could someone please put me right as to what spec I need, basically I would like to be able to point and shoot, could someone please tell me how many pixels etc I should be getting, thanks

    How much do you want to spend?

    Start off with a few things -
    What do you want to photograph?
    What size prints do you want?
    How much have you to spend?
    Do you just want something compact and handy, or a dSLR?

    For most things, check for anything that is greater than 4Megapixels.
    Look for optical zoom (ignore digital zoom)
    Check for battery usage/life
    Memory card types/size/availability


    For compact cameras -
    Canon, Olympus, Fuji are all good makes
    For dSLR -
    Canon and Nikon would be most common

    I hope this gives you a starting point.
