Just wanted suggestions for your scariest, underpants changing movie either the direct scare type movies or the ones that mess with your head.

I'm bored and we like scary movies in our flat but recently we're getting bored and just wondered if you guys could offer up any suggestions.

    Cheers,

    CL

If you haven't seen the Descent yet, then that is highly recommended. One of the few films that have ever scared the absolute hell out of me. Havent seen it for a year or two so can't exactly remember why, but was distinctly unnerved sitting through it.
And others which may not be traditionally scary: Audition (mentioned below), Eraserhead (and most other David Lynch films) etc..

Event Horizon : nice little head ****
IT : to scare you inner child
    Audition : odd.. but good

The Thing usually does it for me. And The Frighteners has it's moments too, though most people dismiss it because it has Michael J Fox in it.

Didn't think much of that to be honest. Ok, but nothing special and kinda boring

I would highly reccomend The Descent, The Thing & The Dawn Of The Dead remake. DOTD isnt paticularly scary but its a very entertaining horror film. The asian movies are generally the ones that creep me out the most. The Eye, Ringu, The Grudge & Audition.

I've seen most of the above suggestions (the Decent was a poorish movie but that video panning around moment when you first properly see the "things" litterally had me jump up onto my bed and scramble against the wall like a gurl it was so unexpected (and that never happens with me), never been so glad I was watching it on my own altho if you swapped the women for men all that crap wouldn't have happened in the movie:) )

Anyway cheers for the suggestions... I've pretty much seen the recent suggestions like the grudge etc. Just wondering what ranks as a movie that had you in bits cos it's hard to find a scary movie that's properly scary and good at the same time :)

If you've seem most of the newer movies you could always revert to the older "classics" -

    Exorcist
    Omen
    Nightmare On Elm Street
    Halloween
    Friday the 13th
    Hellraiser
Arachnaphobia ('specially if you dont like spiders)
    etc.

Not exactly "scary" per se but good nonetheless.

I'd say that the film that scared me the most is A Tale Of Two Sisters. I really cannot recommend it enough, it's a masterpiece, and the fact of the matter is, I hadn't been scared by any film in a very long time. This one really creeped me out.

For some older films, I would seriously recommend The Changeling and Don't Look Now. Both supremely influencial movies in the genre, but can often be overlooked in favour of more low-brow slashers.

What about 'The Devil Rides Out' ? Havent seen it since I was a kid but it scared the beejaysus out of me back then.

The Shining, Silence of the Lambs & Alien, although im sure youve already seen them. Although I havent seen it myself Ive heard A tale of two sisters is v.scary.

[edit] Karl beat me to it. In regards to Dont Look Now - I finally bought and watched it after it being reccomended to me for a long time...I liked it but something wasnt right about it...maybe its just a bit dated. It is definitely quite unsettling though.

Oh yes, forgot to mention, The Devil's Backbone. Same director as Pan's Labyrinth, so you're guaranteed quality.

Might be worth a look at the Karl Hungus Recommends thread, over on the Horror board.

I recommend The Thing, man that makes my skeleton shiver at how well done it is (The alien imitating the fat guy is horrible, especially when his head comes off and sprouts lanky spider legs *shivers*)

Jesus, how long have I been pimping that film over on the Horror board? And you still haven't seen it?

Here you go, The Devil's Backbone, €7.99 and free postage. Can't go wrong, can you?

    Superb, definitely worth a watch.

Forgot about the horror forum. Some good sounding suggestions there. Will look them up but if they're not scary..... well then... be prepared for tears (and I hate crying)

The Grudge scares a lot of people, remake or original, either one. It's the noise and the hair. It's fun to do the sound and freak people out.
Ringu aswell, very unsettling, one of the all-time great horror movies IMO.

There is one part in Kairo (Pulse) that is soo disturbing, but overall I don't think it's that scary and a lot of people seemed to dislike it.

If you want something to mess with your head try Jacob's Ladder, that film is really ****in weird.
Also try Candyman, I didn't find it particularly scary but its a very good horror film nonetheless.
As well The Thing, The Descent and everything Tusky and Karl hungus said get a thumbs up from me.

Yeah, 'Jacob's Ladder' is good. Another one that I (finally) watched recently was 'The Wicker Man' (the original Christopher Lee film). I thought that was pretty unsettling. I'd recommend watching that if you haven't seen it already.

I wasn't a big fan of 'The Descent', thought it was ok, but the worst part for me was
the 'claustrophobic scene with one of the girls crawling through the tight tunnel.
That bit really got my heart beating fast :(

The Hitcher, classic classic classic!! Obviously I'm on about the new remake with Gap-ad teens and Sean Bean

(Just a hint of sarcasm  )
