I put up a request for an Electrical sub forum similar to the woodworking forum here.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=461

So anyone who wants to show their support or otherwise can do so.

    Thank you.

    Regards

    Stoner

What about cracking apart DIY and Gardening and keeping Electrical with DIY?

Why do you need this? It's not as if the forum is over run with electrical enquiries. They keep doing this. They've made shít of the Home Entertainment forum now with all the sub forums that nobody bothers responding to when you ask a question.

They = Mods or whoever else is responsible for it.

I pop my head in every now and then ,to see if I can help with plumbing stuff.
I think too many sub forums means only people with questions ,will use the forum and not anyone with advice.
That just my 2c ,could be wrong :)

I'd support splitting house from garden. threads get buried too quickly and then you get somebody starting very similar threads. If garden had is own sub forum I recon it would get very busy.

If there was to be a split, that'd be the option I'd agree with.

Agreed - definitely split Gardening from DIY..

    good point worth consideration IMO.
However the main reason for requesting the electrical forum is to make it easier to monitor the electircal side of things as poor advice here has safety issues.
If there was another level of a split that Delly could look at, it would not change the main reason for looking into an electrical Forum.:)

I'm not here long, so I don't consider my voice to have the weight of others, but as it has been pointed out, subdivision of the forums isn't always a good thing to the point that the granularity causes confusion and frustration.

How about we go for a 'DIY and Electrical' group, and subdivide 'Gardening'.
Many of us in DIY have experience in gardening and electrical (I've an Electronics certification!) and I feel that electrical complements DIY more-so than gardening.
In terms of safety and the messaging around that, we can use a sticky with the usual 'sudden death' notices to cover off on the advice administered in the forum. In my opinion, you're going to get an idea of the capabilities of the poster based on the information or questions posed, and the response should mirror this in terms of warnings or deterrents...

What's your opinion on this Stoner?

I know where you are coming from 10-10-20. Like I said they are all good ideas, I'm just taking it one step at a time and waiting for a decission on same from the powers that be. They are good points that are being raised, but i dont want to be seen as trying to change things too much if you know where i am coming from.:)

Question for the forum, been on the EV charger forum trying to find out something, I have 10 tails in the mains cabinet,80amp fuse and smart meter. My consumer unit is in the middle of the house and quite inaccessible . I've an upgraded consumer unit with rcd,s breakers etc but as I say 10tails. I wanted to install a 32amp wallbox charger and a RECI came out to survey the job. They said using 16 cable, from charger to the tail in the cabinet and split the 10 tail to connect with everything. An isolation and rcbo for the charger also. I can see the load for charger(32amps ) should be fine except that there will still be an inch or 2 of 10 before the tail is terminated in the smart meter. Ideally could/would the ESB put in a 16 tail from the smart meter to a MCB beside the smart meter, and then I could safely have the 10 tail from here to the consumer board and also the 16 cable from the charger .

A 10mm cable won’t have a 80 Amp fuse. As that’s higher than the cable is rated for.

I'll put up a photo tomorrow, the fuse says 80amp, RECI says 10 tails.
