ok, one thing that has really bugged me to the point of anger was the finale of last season(season 2). as we all know the end of last season showed us some Portuguese lads chillin out, havin a bud and all that, when suddenly they spot what would be a second pulse on their radar, as they had missed the first they said. now fair enough they saw the pulse and that revealed the location of the island.

but here's the kick in my ball sack...

How could Penelope honestly ever know to look for anything of the sort when searching for Desmond?

all she knew was that he got lost somewhere while sailing around the world, i even accept the fact that if she was believing he was still alive that he may end up stranded on an island somewhere.....

but how could she honestly know to look for an emp pf all things or anything related to that particular island at all.

the only conclusion i can come up with is if she was some how connected to something to do with the island, through her work, or her evil dad or her love of black friggin smoke.

its just very annoying when they introduce something that hasnt even been properly referred to again in the slightest.

i know there are questions to keep us thinking but i think this is just a bad question.

it's just one of the unexplained mysteries of the show. Now that Naomi has landed we might get an answer in the finale

We still don't know what ties Penny has with the Island and the outside world so until we are told that we just have to take it that she has means of getting the information she wants.

i think it relates back to pen's father charles widmore (jim from neighbours), whose company is somehow affiliated with dharma/hanso foundation and therefore the island. its the only way i can think of how she could possibly get wind of this mysterious place

The problem I have with it is that the two guys could have been looking for eternity - the magnetic pulse only occured when the numbers counted down and Des turned the key. Life in the Hatch was very routine for a long time before that - years maybe. Just seems very coincidental.

Now if Penny somehow knew the future - then it might make a bit more sense

haha that would be so messed up if she knew the future, i mean talk about stretching it a bit. unless she had special written on her forehead like walt or something. but ive a feeling this wont be touched on for quite some time. in fact i have a feeling the cliff hanger for this season will be only seeing the boat or them saying something on the sat phone. something along the lines of...

Lostie: hello, hello can anyone hear us....

    static static static static

Boat: hello, this is " Insert boat name here"

Lostie: we are the survivors of flight 815, hello can you hear us.

and that will be the end. either that or we'll see the boat coming towards the island and itll be the blackrock or some wierd crap... i dunno. i still think we wont get jack shìt about the boat or penny. itll mainly be about the conflict between the losties and others and the end will be about the ship

desmond was on a boat, she probably knew the ID of the boat.

When the emp went off it probably momentarily disbaled the frequency blocking thing on the island.

This allowed the lads to see the boat Desmond was on.

That's what I gathered from it anyway

Yeah its most probably something like this

Desmond is in Charles Widmores bad books. When he gets out of prison Widmore pulls up in the Bently and we learn that he has been stopping all the letters Des wrote to Penny. Charles doesn't want Des in the Family.
Penny tracks Des down to some stadium. She cries, she still loves him. Des doesn't tell her about the letters. She is supposed to get married.

    'How did you find me?"
'With enough money and contacts you can find anyone' she replies.

Desmond wants to win Widmores boat race for pride.
This information becomes known to Widmore probably innocently through Penny. He has Desmond marooned on the Lost Island by arranging it with a contact from Hanso/Dharma since his company is one of the majors financial contributors to hanso org and it's Projects.
Penny somehow finds out or suspects that her father has interfered with Desmonds fate. She manges to gain enough information on the DI to know that it is a Pacific Island masked by a Huge Em sphere.
She sets up the the Monitoring station.

Aye that is possible alright, but we are still not sure of the full extent of the EMP.
