Just got an 03 VW gti a few weeks ago.

Getting it serviced in MSL on pottery road.It has 62k miles on it.

Think the timing belt has to be done accordding to them.So how much do you think this will cost me?

Hoping nothing else out of the ordinary needs doing of course.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Ask them. Our opinions don't matter a damn.

It is highly unlikely to be reasonable btw.

I would have thought asking them what the price is would be your first port of call..

Timing belt change + full service for a Golf GTI from a Dublin VW dealer? I'd say 1000-1100.

Best thing is call afew dealers like fostor motors, Brady's etc
Last year i saved over 100 euro by going out to bradys in castleknock and getting a service for my golf.
I even got a car rental for the day and was still cheaper.

Don't. Bring it to a good independent, they'll do a far better job and cheaper to boot.

Ye 1000-1100 sounds about right for service and timing belt change

A 2003 Golf is well outside of VW warranty at this stage so I personally don't see the point of bringing it to a VW dealer to be fleeced. A good reputable independant mechanic or VW specialist will do the job for a fraction of the price and their stamp on the service history book will be worth just as much as a main dealer's.

Fookin hell, is that for real? For a small family hatch? I pay about €200-€400 for an annual service including all original parts for my BMW 7-series

You must know someone as that sounds cheap.I paid nearly 400 to get a 1.4 golf serviced last year.

I mean a reputable independant backstreet mechanic. Most potential buyers will be more concerned that the service/work was carried out properly rather than where it was done. A VW dealer stamp might look good on the service book of a 4 year old Golf but will add no value to the car imo.

Main dealers up and down the country tend to be more expensive when it comes to servicing and imo not worth it on a car that is outside of the original warranty.

If you've space and time on your hands a basic service on an 00 Polo shouldn't be too hard. Just make sure that you have someone around to ask questions of!!

OP; if you only got the car a few weeks ago, why didn't you insist on the timing belt being done if it was almost due? Or that the car would be serviced pre-collection?

OP - Are you in South Dublin? I've never used them, but Jetstar seem to be quite well regarded around here.

Yea Jetstar are by far a better option and they were also a VW commercial agent up to a year ago so have all the equipment and experience

Sorry for going OT here. But a 7 year old Polo with 1 stamp, only just put in isn't going to sell any easier then a 7 year old Polo with no stamps. Save yourself the couple hundred Euro on a service and let the car go a bit cheaper. The only servive history that is any good is a full one, it could look like this was the 1st service if you get it stamped now.

I'm assuming the car was bought privately?
