    Hi,

Could someone direct me to a site which compares mac v pc processor speeds. A few sites I found make general comparisons but I am looking for a site which will do a direct comparison with a specific mac processor, e.g a mac mini 1.83 Intel core duo is comparable in speed with a particular Dell processor. My son wants me to change to a Dell (and I don't!) and directly compares the numerical processor speeds which I know is not correct.

    thanks.

Well a 1.83ghz Intel Core Duo in a Mac is identical in speed and performance to a 1.83ghz Intel Core Duo machine from any other manufacturer. The old idea of a 700mhz mac is equivalent to a 1.4ghz pentium was with the PowerPC architecture of yesteryear. That probably wasn't really true either and depended on what apps you used.

But anyway the answer is a 1.83ghz Intel Mac Mini is the same as a 1.83ghz Dell or HP or whatever. Macs are basically PC's anyway and can run windows etc.

Lesson: don't let your son influence you to buy a PC.

He can work for his own machine :p

Apple usually have a rake of Benchmarks buried in their tech spec of any individual product, with Benchmark results for various tasks. Always found this good for a comparison .. rather than take their word for it that the Spec.A doo-hicky Thingy is 1.5x faster ! ;o)
