    Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I have with my AVG at the moment.

When Windows XP starts up a box comes up with an alert sound saying something about a DLL error. It happens at the time AVG should load and rest in the task bar. AVG does not load then and I cannot use it.

Is there any chance I could fix this as I am worried a virus may not go un-noticed.

Have you tried uninstalling AVG and reinstalling?

Is it an Illegal System DLL Relocation?

If so, there are one of two causes, both arising from extensive reworkings of the Windows UI for security reasons after the discovery of an animated cursor exploit.

1: Some Illegal System DLL errors affect programs like those affecting the Realtek Control Panel, will involved Hhcrtl32.ocx. Microsoft has documented this issue and made a patch.

2: If you have a custom skin/theme for Windows XP, like the BricoPacks, they will have made changes to the system that conflict with those of the April 3rd updates. If that's the case, the error will be between Shell32.dll and User32.dll. In that case you'll need to remove the offending skinning software.

note, if it is an errant skin causing User32.dll and System32.dll to conflict, then Windows Calculator (Calc) won't work either.

Yes I just tried to run Windows Calculator and it wouldn't because of the DLL issue.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling AVG but to no effect.

Any idea's on how I could sort this lads? Thanks
