This Question arose as a result of reading this thread.

and this one from awhile back...

In the first one alot of people seem to think the pre-flop raiser should of raised more, while in the second one I was advised to raise less because the raise only encouraged a re-steal.

Is it standard that pre-flop raises get smaller (in terms of xBB obv) the further into a tournament you go? I tend to just raise between 3xBB and 4xBB all the time. Maybe add a bit if there's a couple of limpers.

Don't think I've ever seen a thread discussing this and was hoping to get some clarity on the issue.

Normally i would raise the same as you would. But i think it depends on your reads of players on the table. If you know there is a player that will call anything maybe a x6 or x7 BBs would make them fold quicker.

yes, as early on, more people are likely to see a flop.......a 3bb raise in level 1 for example can be a very small % of someones stack, however, later on, it can be much more significant. (as a tourney progresses, its usual for the average stack to be less BBs than early on).

It depends what you want to achieve and your strategy. As blinds get bigger, you want to be stealing more, so when you raise to 5xBB your raises have to have a larger success rate. By raising smaller, 2.5BB, then they dont need as high success rate, and also depending on the other stacks, restealing your raises wont be as profitable.
