To play rm files you need realplayer. Go to downloads.com and do a search for it.

Don't download real player. It's evil. Search for real player alternative.

Don't know about it being evil but it is very annoying. Every so often it uses the internet and annoys me about something or other. What are these alternatives you speak of JPA?

Tends to install itself all over your computer. Hard to get rid of.
Comparable to the AOL browser if you've ever used it.

The alternative is using media player classic and installing some codecs which allow you to use real player files without the messy real player. Google media player classic or Real alternative.

Real Alternative is lower on resources, no nagging screens, registration or any of that nonsense and easy to remove if you want to.

Right click one of the files in question & choose "Open With" from the menu.

Click on the "Choose Program" option.

Choose Quicktime as the program to open the file, if it's not in the list use the Browse button. Make sure to put a check mark in the little box for "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

As AlmightyCushion said you need Realplayer to play RM files.

During the installation you must have chose the option to "Associate all MIME Types with Realplayer"

Your other video fils (Other then the rm ones) should still play in Quicktime if you associate them with it.

Quicktime is evil too. Takes unreasonably long to load if you disable qttask and qttask is always running in the background if you don't.

    Try Quicktime alternative aswell.

Media Player classic has worked best for me - it installs
ready to play the usual mpg,wmv etc and will play rm
    and mov/qt.

Most movie files that will not play on MPC will play on VLC
    which is also free.

RealAlternative, and Quicktime Alternative install plugins so that Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, and any other application that takes advantage of DirectShow (part of DirectX) can use those plugins to playback those files. I use RealAlternative because Realplayer, really is crapware, just like AOHell.

Now, as for Quicktime, Quicktime is the only media player I have found that lets me playback video frame-by-frame using the arrow keys. WMP, Media Player Classic nor VLC provide that feature, something I find useful on occasion. Besides, I use iTunes, and Quicktime comes with it, so handy enough.
