I listened to a bit of the Ian Dempsey show on the way in this morning. Currently he's on a mini tour of the contry encouraging people to get out and vote. In my opinion he'd be better off leaving well enough alone. Of the pieces I heard, admittedly the top and tail ends of the show, his contribution was some bad gift grub sketches, chatting to kids, and mumbling about what he'd do the next two days then the ban on election coverage comes into play. The rest of the time was spent rabbiting on about how nice his hotel was and the sort of treats he was being given. I'd love to know if this initiative is something Ian or Today FM have launched themselves. If it's paid for by public funds then it's yet another waste of taxpayer's money. It's a junket for him and his production team, and not a very productive or beneficial one at that.

    Why don't people get it ....... ??!

TODAY FM is a completely independent commercial station and does not benefit from any taxpayers money!!!

What I meant was whether the initiative was paid for as a campaign by government, ie a promotional initiative.

    I really doubt it...

It's just something that Ian Dempsey seems to do all the time... It's like its written in his contract somewhere that he mst go on holidays with his show every month... Cushy job or what...

I'm in favour of any initiative that gets people out to vote, however if Ian Dempsey thinks it's cool, then it clearly isn't.

I fail to understand how doing a show from a hotel room in Waterford is any different to doing it from a studio in Dublin.

The only time I really enjoy listening to the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show is when Tom Dunne does it. :)

Ditto. Ditto to the MAX....I know the meteors are a joke, but how the hell does Ray D'arcy keep beating him?! He's the best DJ commercial Irish radio has....
