fitting new h/w making warranty void

    im thinking of upgrading my 80gb internal hd to a 160gb
    im thinking also of upgrade my current 1gb of ram to 2gb of ram
    but will this make my warranty void,how will they know i tampered with the hd and ram if i put it back to factory spec b4 i send it in for repair,god forbid!

    you're allowed upgrade those parts yourself. hence why it's so easy

    Replacing the RAM is fine but afaik the hd is not considered a "user-installable" part so replacing it will void the warranty. Though Apple may overlook it.

    If it's a user-servicable part, the machine's covered.
    The new HDD wouldn't be, unless you can link its failure to the Macbook.

    Just off the top of my head.

    yeah but i think what he is worried about is voiding the warranty. cause thats what i was worried about! but if something apart from the hard drive goes then i reckon you should be alright. the hard drive is considered a user-servicable part on the MacBook. not on the Pro though

    That's the official Apple guide to changing a MacBook's hard drive. Follow the instructions and your warranty should be fine.
