I think it might turn in to a club hopping fiasco, but it might work. Interesting idea though.

It works well over here. No one knocks back drinks, if you want to drink more you just move on. There is rarely fights on the streets. Most takeways are closed by midnight. Every bar must be able to serve a substantial hot meal at any hour by law. No need to rush to McDs at close, just have a bite to eat in the bar and keep on drinking.

I was over in Brighton for a weekend back in March and the 24 hour drinking works very well over there.

I latest I stayed out when I was there was 5am but some of my mates stayed out till around 7am but you could get a bite to eat in the bar from 2am till 6am and none of us saw any trouble over the 3 nights we were there..

I'm 100% in favour. Needs serious lobbying force to get off the ground though. Possibly pilot scheme in Dublin city centre needed first to prove it can work. As middle-class, middle-age politicians will generally just oppose it without thinking.

what prompted the change in england? what will get us over the hump here? does people need to pick a council to put forward a pilot proejct, can a council change (extended by numerous hours) closing times by the themselves

    the politicians responses are poor

How about a poll, and if there is enough interest we can see about staring a campaign of lobbying politicians

Would definitely lead to people 'knocking back' drinks less because everyone is in a rush to get drunk and time does indeed fly by when you're having fun.

    Agreed.

When i was in Paris, i was out with a few friends, we just having a few pints in the niteclub, chatting away and having a bit of craic. Then one us noticed it was 5am! But we weren't completely p!ssed and jsut decided to go home. It was strange then because there was no rush to get a taxi or massive crowds at chippers. I'm all for it!!

Too true. Oh the stuff that happens outside there.

But 24 hour drinking would be such a good idea, but would be bloody hard to enforce though.
