Buying a PS2

I'm about to buy a slimline Playstation 2 and I have a couple of questions:

    1) I might buy a second hand console. What, if anything, should I be looking for? I mean, are there any known problems with the laser or anything like that?

    2) Do all games require a memory card to save to? Do I need one or is there any writable memory in the console?

    3) I was also thinking about getting a wireless controller. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about these?

    Thanks! :)

The first few Playstation 2's that were out had laser problems, but I think the slimline ones are grand, I've had one for a few years and not one problem.

Yeah you will need to get a memory card, all games use them. The slimline Ps2's have no hard drive, you'd have to get an older Ps2 and then buy the HD seperate if you really wanted one, which you wouldn't need.

Not a clue about wireless controllers though.

Few people I know have the wireless controller - played with these controllers an awful lot and have to say didn't notice any lag (and I'm finicky about things like that!)

Yup get the memory card (great investment ;) )

There was a recall done on certain power adaptors sold between August and December, 2004 but I never heard of any other issues.

Everyone I know who has a ps2 loves them, and also I have as yet to see a broken one, very reliable!
