This thread is motoring related. Ive seen a few old black and white road signs in Miles and wondered if you know of some still in use. Ive also seen one or two of a town sign with an arrow through it which I think is a 60s design.. In different parts of Co. Waterford there are triangular signs mounted on a stone wall in tiny layby and Im wondering if they are in other parts of Ireland.

Finally I wonder how many old petrol pumps are in service, either the tall type with a petrol globe and the smaller I960s version. Lately I noticed a few vandalised pumps which hadnt been used for 20 years or more.

On the subject of petrol pumps does anyone know where a good working petrol pump could be purchased?

I know of a couple of the rectangular shaped warning signs - these preceded the current diamond shaped ones. Also know of a triangular sign warning of a school, looks old. Another one is the hospital sign, think there may be one or two of these around too. These have a torch on them, not a modern torch but like a flame torch, looks a bit like a Corneto ice cream!

There should be samples of these signs here

But the image for the samples doesn't seem to be working.

A later set of signs can be found at

There are loads of these ones still about.
