Monitors for PC's

Hello ,I know a thread has been done for monitors a couple of months back. But if I can find a good monitor for photo work ,I'll just order one.

Is the dell 20" ultrasharp monitor any good ??

By all accounts they are very good , Komplett have some good ones also , in particular these are supposed to be very good ,

Also apple displays can be had for a similar price and will work fine on a PC

I believe the best panels are S-IPS , this site will tell you what panel technology is used in whatever monitor you are considering.

If it has an S-IPS panel then its invariably a good monitor ,
Calibration should be taken into account as well , no matter how good it is chances are its not calibrated out of the box so budget for a Spyder or Pantone huey calibrator as well.

I can get all below delivered for 730 ,is the gamble worth it to see if the monitor is the S-IPS one ?? .

I'm afraid if I wait ,this offer will be gone

according to the link in the post above , for finding out what type panel is in the monitor , that Dell Ultrasharp in the list is indeed an S-IPS panel.

I just typed Dell into the box and it gave me these results

You can see the 2007FPW about halfway down the list.

Edit : Sorry but it seems you cant link directly to the results but if you type in dell you'll see for yourself

Definitely a good value package , you need an extra 1GB of memory , Vista is not great with 1GB , buy it from Komplett , Dell will rip you off royally for memory , I strongly recommend you get a calibrator as well though , especially for photo work , they both work fine under Vista too.

i've heard nothing but good reports on all the dell uptrasharp monitors !
i'll probably hit the credit card again , and get one during the week

The first thing i did mathias is check the dell monitor ,I seen only sips come up. but when i followed the link of the monitor that came up ,it had a different part number to the one i ordered.
I've read somewhere ,that dell changes it's parts suppliers every few months .
But I suppose for 730 yoyos ,I can't really complain

My best monitor at the moment is a 17" LG display and reviews say it's only fit for word processing.

I will need more ram ,I want to get a graphics card aswell. But hopefully when I see the display in the flesh ,I'll figure what card is best.

I think all dell ultrasharps are S-IPS , in the results from the page it says 2007WFP but I think thats just a typo and that this is the monitor included in your package. ( I can find no ref to a 2007WFP , just 2007FPW , anywhere else so pretty sure its a typo )

Id agree , at the price you have you cant really lose anyway , go for it !

FPW was the early model ,they say (some american review site)that the WFP is more industrial ,but with similar qualities (Whatever that means )

I went total scabby on the order and applied for a 3 year loan
So the machine will cost me 23 euro a month .

Now all I have to do is come up with another excuse for spending more money:o

Cost of this item is all over the place ... I bought it for €707 two weeks ago ... then it went up to €1000 ... now it is €759 ...

Great stuff leinsterman ,I'm hoping the 20" isn't too small in height.
I remember valentia mention the widescreen made the 20" small in height.

Once the quality is there ,hopefully it will do.

To me the Spyder looks like it's designed better. The huey looks like it will let light in during use ??

Any paticular one to go for out of the two ?
