Its a group B aerial you want then. Check the plastic plugs at each end of the aerial you wish to buy. They should be yellow, as in the colour codes in the table. What transmitter/relay are you hoping to get a signal from?

Hopeing to use the Bandon one, I have currently VHF from Mullaghanish with UHF from southcoast relay (colour king) but all my neighbours bar a few have uhf group aerial pointing at the relay so for 8 euro, said i would give it a try as vhf can be a bit sketchy as it is in the attic and don't want to put it on chimney so will try small uhf with view to putting it on gable end.

Look for a wideband aerial if your not sure of the uhf aerial required, this will have a black tip at both ends.

Bandon relay is grp B, horizontal polarisation. Uses chs. 41/44/51. Power is 10W.

Where exactly are you and where are you receiving SC from? IF it is main TX at Carrigaline you will probably have problems diplexing it with Bandon RTE TX.
    Chs 40, 42, 45 & 48.
If it is Bandon , (group A horizontal) your best bet might be a wideband grid (colour king) aerial. This has a wide angle of acceptance and may take in both TX s.
You are aware there is no TV3 off of Bandon relay? (like most relays).
you might be best off sticking with what you have if reception is OK.

I got FTA satellite few months back so don't really care about sc anymore and never watch tv3 so thought I would chance getting my 2 rtes spot on with proper group aerial as I can put that on gable end tidy. Part of it is just fooling aswell to amuse myself, you know yourself we're never happy if we can improve it. Was thinking of not diplexing it with anything (have televes VHF and colourking) but they are a bit big for my gable end (would be over windows) where small (yagi?) would be unseen.
BTW, I get sc from west along

I meant SC group A, RTE is Group B, a Colour-King MAY pick up both due to its wide angle of acceptence and the fact that its wideband. RTE only, go for Group B.

Isn't there a 2nd South Coast relay for Bandon located to the north west of the town, which I seem to recall is Group C/D, maybe that's what he's receiving?

but the main one for Bandon is Group A alright, on the big hill some miles South West of the town (22,25,30,34)

With FTA satellite, don't need sc anymore especially with its inevitable shutdown due to digital. I currently have rte on VHF but I find some reception problems due to interference somewhere (I have tried to eliminate) but not on UHF so going to sort out my action. Thanks for all the help lads. Bye bye tv3, pity I never watched you!
Last question to ye, why is TV3 not being transmitted from the relays?

A quick question for ye if ye don't mind, I already have a colourking which I want to use to pick up tv3 off mullaghanish and vhf but isn't satisfactory and both feed into an amp which then outputs to tv. Now, If I get myself gpB to get RTE in UHF and mount it outside, can I diplex it with my colourking using televes Ch21-37/ch40-69 diplexer and then feed this diplexed signal into the uhf slot in the amp I currently have with the VHF? Or do you amp before diplexing?

If both UHF signals are weak, then you can put amplifier after diplexer. But if one UHF aerial is pulling in sufficient signals without amp, then you'd put the amp after diplexer, on whichever leg needs the gain. When doing this make sure there is Power Pass to the amp.

IIRC it's due to RTE demanding too much money from TV3 to be carried on the relays. There is a channel allocated on most for it.
