Replacing Sky+ box with HTPC

    Hey all,

I'm considering venturing into this area but I'd be doing to replace my sky box. Can I get two PCI cards that will decode the Sky signal? I've seen mention of a floppy drive bay sized sky card device, but I can't find any for sale.

I'd look to use MythTV and may even invest in a zalman hd 160 (possibly x treme too when it becomes available)

Is this possible? Is there support for the Sky card reader in linux? Also, could you correct my vocabulary so I know what to search for!

its an expenisve risk as there are rumours sky will be replacing there cards this year which will probably mean that the new cards will only work on sky digibox's and not dreambox's, cam's etc

These guys have a product called Floppy DTV-S. This can be mounted in a 3.5" floppy drive bay or else you can use the supplied PCI bracket. It isn't a PCI card and it connects to you PC via the firewire port either external or the internal header.

This is a single satellite tuner. Sky + has twin tuners. There's also some rumours that you might have to put the viewing card back into the digibox for an update every now and then.

The Floppy DTV-s has a CAM reader so you must buy the correct CAM, program the CAM with your Sky Digibox serial number, slide your viewing card into the CAM.

The card on it's own will decode the FTA satellite channels such as BBC & ITV.

Check out the forums on "http://firedtv.co.uk/" and there's many there that have Sky working. FireDTV also sell the Floppy DTV-s and CAM. I think they will even program the CAM with your boxes serial number.

I've the hardware but I've been told the CAM has the wrong firmware :(

I got the Technotrend S2-3200 for it's ability to tune HDTV (DVB-S2) signals, a budget CI and a T-Rex CAM. I'll need help setting this up, so I'll be back on I'm sure!

    Thanks for your help,

Hey man, that site doesn't seem to exist. Is that the correct URL?

Trust me, there is "was" a site there. Last time I logged on was a week ago. Maybe they are experiencing technical difficulties.

There was a guide posted on The Green Button a while back for this kind of thing.
