Buying from Dell

Hello ,I've been pricing up a new machine on Dell at the moment. And was wondering ,
Have they changed much in the last few years ,with regards to service and build quality ?

I've two machines from them at the moment ,only ever had trouble with one and a new drive was delivered the next day for it.

I'm a bit concerned though ,that they don't look after customers like they use to . I've heard stories about their service centres are operated by people who speak half english.

I was opting for the 3YR guarantee ,but only if it's a service thats of any use.

    Anyone shed any light ?

Yeah, their call centres are muck.
That said, I've never come across a dell with a major hardware fault.
Their machines are pretty cheap too.

Don't go for the 3 year warranty, it's a waste of cash. Anything happens, call someone over to fix it. It'll work out cheaper.

Don't do any upgrades, in particular RAM & Graphics Cards, they make a bomb on these, and you can fit them yourself with relative ease at a snip of the price. See http://www.komplett.ie for real prices.

Care to post what machine you're after?

I was mainly looking at the Dimension 9200 ,2.1G ,2G Ram. 2x160GB raptors.
Or getting a xps 210 and upgrading ,but the 9200 was working out cheaper.

    thanks for the reply.

    Brian.

Komplett now do full PC's I noticed, might be worth a look. They offer 3 year warranty, not sure how good the warranty is though.

The only reason I'd buy from Dell ,is they are the closest to home for service.
But the thoughts of talking to a pcworld icon ,when I have trouble ,isn't good news.

Even if the machine is a little dearer on komplett ,I would probably stand a better chance of diagnosing trouble with it myself.

Unless someone can tell me dells service is great ,I suppose komplett are the best bet.

Actually unless you're buying a gaming system there is absolutely no way you will beat Dell for value. Check out bargin alerts - core 2 duo machines with 1gb ram and 20" monitors for 600.

Komplett would be good for either a gaming pc, or parts to upgrade a purchased Dell base unit.

Sounds like a good spec, maybe watch out for their specials and if one comes along that is near to what you want then jump on it. Maybe look into 2 monitors, I use them a lot when editing.

The dell deal looks good ,not sure how good the 20" ultrasharp monitor is good for photos.
