    Here's how.

    Download this modem script:

    http://www.taniwha.org.uk/files/Generic3G2004-09.sit

and place it in your "modem scripts" folder.

    Open Network Preferences

    Account name: my
    Password: meteor
    Telephone number: isp.mymeteor.ie

In PPP options set "send PPP echo packets" off.

Under Bluetooth Modem set Modem to "Generic 3G CID1".

Go to the meteor website and buy some data. Unlimited data is only available for talk 400 or higher, that's the €60 plan.

For which phone though?? There are better scripts than that depending on the phone model. The generic one is not always suitable.

I'm using a w810. I only set this up today so can't comment on performance. There are scripts that work the same way for different phones at http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
I figured I should keep it simple.

Could you give an overview of the differences in scripts? What the alternative settings do? When I was trying to get all this working I was editing scripts but didn't really know what was going on.

Well you're better off using the SE script number 5 with that, for a start.

There are also 2 x Nokia 3G scripts which are much more reliable that the generic.

There are some anomlies too: I discovered that to get an LG to work, you need to use a script for a Sony z1010.

I got millions of them from a great Italian 3G site (well, dozens).

BTW, for those interested, 3 Austria offer downloads of a "connectivity wizard" for Mac and PC.

Right, I changed over. Could you explain what the difference is though?

Well, I haven't gone through each and every script (I wouldn't understand in any case) but the benefits of using a dedicated script for your modem would seem obvious. I've been through them all and found that number 5 was the best with a modern SE. Otherwise the connection seems prone to breaking up (if you use the generic flavour). Nokia 3G 1 is best for 3G Nokias and so on.

The script contains the best "telephone number" too -which is why you use the the APN in the network settings. *99# is already in the script.

In the case of the LG nuisance, the best number to use with it was not contained in the Sony z101o script, which turned out to be *99***4#.

Sorry, I've been asking from a technical point of view. I studied electronisc/telecommunications and am curious as to which settings might be different and what exactly they are.

    Wouldn't have a notion, I'm afraid :-)
