Playing a clever LAG

I was playing a guy this morning who at first I thought was a bit of a crazy. His stats were 34/25/3.2. But after a while I had to give him credit, he seemed to know when he was beat and stopped the aggression and overall seemed a good player.

Was thinking of the best way of palying someone like that. In one hand I checked top 2 pair and let him bet close on the pot on the flop, hoping he'd come out firing again on the turn. As it transpired he just had a gutshot draw and didn't pay me off anymore.

Got me thinking - I think you need to play a bit off centre to catch out someone like him. Was wondering if donk betting could be the way to go. i.e. betting piddly amounts and let him try to bully you out of it.

    Anyone any ideas?

A good lag would wise up to this pretty quickly

I think the betting piddly amounts could work for a short while but as BCB said he will catch on to it quickly enough.
I suppose try and control the pot as much as possible.

also tighten up if he has position on you, and reraise the s*** out of him if he doesn't.

I agree totally, but I think for a while it could befuddle him.

I guess against a guy like this, a fairly aggressive player like me (stats for last 30k haNDS APPROX 24/13/4) means we are both going to tangle sometimes and there probably is no default position I can take on the likes of him. Found him frustrating to play against as he got away less burnt than i would have hoped each time I had a hand, and just about everytime I tried to bluff him off a hand he had the goods, at the same time I admired his reading abilities.

using that basis thought pretty much anything you do he will wise up to if he is good. my advice would be as P3P says re-raise the balls off him in positions, i dont think keeing pots small is that good an idea, if hes loose we want to play big pot with him. i alsi think the key is variation, donk bet sometime with big hand, then do it next with with a gutshot etc etc.... dont make yourself easy to read.
