Got out early this morning, to test out my lens.
These are shots I took, while hand holding the lens, in a gale, using IS.
I shudder to think what the shots would have been like, without IS.
I was never closer than 100m to the deer & more often than not, I was 200m away.

I know very little about these things but I really like the first one for the way you have captured the light and also for the contrast between the sharp detail in the foreground and the blurred background.

    Owch, much sharpness! Wow.

The dappled light in the first shot gives it loads of atmosphere. Tis annoying with the wire cages round the trees, but I could just be being my pernickety self. For some reason I'm very taken by the 5th shot - and I couldn't even say why... but I like it :)

Love the 1st and 5th ones. Must head over to the Park to get a few shots.

Anything that's not a deer, is a tree, in some state or other. ;)
    Thanks for the comments, everyone.
Anyone in Dublin, who looks out their window, will see the wind I had to contend with. That IS is unbelieveable!

Took some more shots today, on the Grand Canal, in Tullamore.

The phoenix park shots are very nice, pin sharp. Are you going to the Irelands Eye trip next weekend? Your new lens would be perfect for it.

No, I'm going to Wembley! :D
    Football comes first with me.

The second set of images have been reduced to 15% of their original size, so there was some quality loss. I didn't want to spend 30 mins uploading them in their original size.

Really sharp. Love the first one with the light behind the deer.

Is it a Nikon or Canon lens etc ?

I'd rent out my sister before I'd rent out my lens!

    :D

Seriously though, I don't get back to Dublin until late on Friday & have to be in the airport by 0500 on Saturday morning, so there isn't even time to iron a shirt, not to mention hand over a lens.

Will have to manage with my Samsung NV10 at Wembley.

Wembley? What's on there next Saturday? I thought all the big games were over! ;)

Going on Sunday, to see Blackpool v Yeovil Town, in the League One Play-off Final. If their respective games, last weekend, are anything to go by, it should be a cracker. Can't wait!
The orange of Blackpool, mixed with the green & white of Yeovil, should make for a very colourful occassion...

No, No, the BIG game is this Wed. Now that would be an event to have a camera at, but unfortunately I couldn't get a ticket. Mind you, for the current going rate for tickets, you could buy a 1D MKIII plus a good lens.
