Camera bag

    Hi folks,

I've come to the stage where I need a new camera bag. So far, I've two - one backpack (Lowepro Computrekker AW) and a shoulder bag (Lowepro Nova 3 AW).

Now I need a new bag (more lenses, larger lenses etc).

I'm caught between another shoulder bag such as Lowepro Stealth Reporter D300 AW and the Lowepro SlingShot 300 AW.

Any advice/comments on either, or even another choice? I've a fair bit of equipment that I take for a day out - Canon 20D, 100-400mm L IS, 24-70 and 10-22mm. That, combined with some days where I need to take a flash too.

Also, any advice where to buy a bag?

Just curious also as to what others use.

    Thanks

I have the baby slingshot - the 100 - but I have very minimal kit. I find that the way it goes across your back is really good for having it out of the way when you're scrambling about the countryside, and the easy access to the main compartment is excellent, rather than a normal backpack that you have to take off, put on the ground, unzip and faff about with. There wouldn't be a lot of options for arranging the interior dividers with kit like yours though, and I'mnot sure how comfy it would be when its much heavier.

If you get a shoulder bag to carry more then it's a bit more cumbersome as far as usually they are quite wide and if you have the strap across your body and the bag at your hip, it gets in the way a lot. That's the style I used to use.

I spose the main question is, what kind of environment will you be using it in? What's your priority - ease of access/comfort/security?

    I've got the SlingShot 200 AW and I carry 400d with barrery grip, EF 70-200mm f/4 IS with hood, EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS with hood, 50mm f/1.4 with hood, EF 1.4x II and a Speedlite 430EX.

I its quite a tight squeeze but I manage. The 300 AW is bigger than the 200 so I'd bet you have plenty room for your gear.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments. I do think that the slingshot is a better choice. Easier to carry the weight, and capable to carry plenty of gear.

While security is always a consideration, a little lock might be handy. But, more than that, it's for comfort and ability to carry most of what I need.

Mostly it would be for trips around and country walks, rather than urban stuff. Easy of access is always critical, and it seems the slingshot has just about all I want.

The bags both seem to be the same price at least.

    Thanks folks.

I have the slingshot 200aw as well but I find it very uncomforable on my right shoulder if I have to much gear in it. Might be worth considering.

I had a computrekker but I got fed up with it. I upgraded to a tamrac pro 12 and I'm delighted with it. It can carry two bodies with lense attached (a 24-70 and a 70-200), batteries, flash, extenders and a whole host of other bits and pieces with room to spare. It's the only bag I think I will ever need.

I also have the 200aw. At first I found it a little uncomfortable on my right shoulder, but I discovered it was because it was hanging too loose. Once I tightened it, it was much better and the sorness went away. Since it is hanging from only your right shoulder, as DarrenG said, you'll have to keep that in mind... That gravity thing will get you every time.
