Ive had this problem with my pc for a while in that it doesnt allow the installation of new programs in some cases i get the message "Error 1500 - installation already in progress" but in most cases when u try to complete the insatallation of a new program once it has been downloaded, it will automatically shut the pc down and restart it again. its really frustrating as it cant install a program on the pc in which may allow me to fix the problem any info that might help fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!!

I believe this is a Windows Installer (.msi) issue.

It should list the program that is already tring to install, and which user account it is trying to be installed from. Log on to that user account, and install the program listed.

    I know. It's retarded.

It should say in in the window telling you an installation is in progress. That said, I may be horifically wrong.

What program are you trying to install?
What install wizard does it use? (MSI, InstallShield, Nullsoft, Proprietary)?

Its a number of downloads but the main focus is betfair, its strange ive gone to the registry and it says there is no program in the process of downloading but the minute i try to run a new program to complete installation the computer just reboots. there is no info on the box other that error 1500 and then another box comes up tellin me that windows desktop is shuttin down
    Im completely perplex!!!

The install wizard that i use is installshield do u think if it would make any difference if i just deleted installshield off the computer and try and put a new wizard on instead????

    Please help!!!

OK, I know what the problem is now.
Are you confident in editing the windows registry?

There is a registry key called inProgress, which is located at HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\InProgress.

(to get into the registry, go to the run command, and type "regedit".
Delete this key. Try installing again.

Went into the registry and couldnt find that exact code

    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\folders
    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\products
    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\secure
    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\userdata

these were the only codes i could find, i reallly appreciate this help

You should have them back up their registry before going anywhere near it!!

Please do this before you delete any keys, no matter how sure you are

    Go to Start > Run
    Type:
      regeditClick OK.
      • On the leftside, click to highlight My Computer at the top.
      • Go up to "File > Export"
Make sure in that window there is a tick next to "All" under Export Branch. Leave the "Save As Type" as "Registration Files". Under "Filename" put
        backup
[*]Choose to save it to C:\ or somewhere else safe so that you will remember where you put it (don't put it on the desktop!)
[*]Click save and then go to File > Exit.
This is so the registry can be restored to this point if we need it. It may take a minute. Just let it go until it's done.
