Hi.I was wondering if there are any 'abandoned' places in Ireland.
(most interested in Co.Dublin area).I'm looking for old factories, houses, boiler houses, halls etc. I love photos of such places and I would like to find them in Ireland... as example of my idea: http://www.opuszczone.com/index_en.php?s=home_en

I would recommend the old hill fort up at Dunree in Inishowen. Long drive but well worth it.

    Check out my current project.

not that easy to find places in dublin; a lot of them have been bulldozed to make way for housing estates.

dunree is amazing alright. Was doing a bit of touring in the area last summer and stopped to take a visit there after everyone had gone home. Very very cool place but very freaky. It was just me, the missus, and a guy walking his dogs among the many many derelict buildings.

    Rymus,

I was there last night. The place was really creeping me out. The whole place creaks like crazy. There are shut doors with pitch black rooms behind them.

Then I catch something out the corner of my eye and two dogs spring through the door. I almost dropped my camera by Jove.

=>amcinroy / yeah, graet picts, great place.I'll try to visit next month when.
I'm going to go to Donegal Rally (15/06) so I'll be in this area.
    Thanks

Naturally ,it's hard to find abandoned places, that's why these places are so amazing and mysterious ;)

There's also the old swimming baths in Dun Laoghaire and Blackrock. Neither is too easy to get into. Blackrock being a good deal harder. Both involve a little climbing (read: a lot, for Blackrock).

Dalkey Island has a old fort, martello tower and a church, used to be a boat from coliemore harbour that would take you over and collect you.
Don't know if it stills runs.

There's plenty of spots in Dublin if you can find them.

Try the north quay in Arklow, east past the new Bridgewater shopping centre. Access doesn't appear to be a problem.

I usually go cycling to find places off the beaten track.
Does anyone use a GPS device? ,if so we could post corodinates of places that are off the beaten track.

The old Semperit factory in Park West looks intriguing.

Well officially you didn't hear me say this, but La Touche hotel in Greystones is pretty atmospheric. Involves some wall-hopping, possibly climbing through windows and a lot of watching out for the Gards
