I am looking to buy a whiskey for my father's 60th, looking to spend up to 100€ - wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of something fine, as I knows nothing on the subject.

All I can tell you is that he's fond of Middleton 25yr as regards taste and whatnot...

    Cheers

Well, the Midleton 25 year costs about €900 now.

You could get a Midleton Very Rare for €120. However, the Jameson 18 is nicer, in my opinion, and can be got for about €100. There is also a very very good Redbreast 15 - only available in the Celtic Whiskey Shop, for about €85.

This would be similar in taste to the Midleton 25.

Bushmills 21 is about €140. Or there are some single cask Tyrconnels or Connemaras.

Went with a Tyrconnels in the end, thanks for the suggestions. Tasted some 18yr old Jameson that night and it's delicious!
