I love Ebay! I always seem to find some great deals like my €12 Morley wah or my €200 Pod XT (It was brand new and this was at a time when they were over €400). Today I received my latest and greatest Ebay find, an excellent condition ADA MP1 preamp for €90. Ive only had a few minutes play time with it but its great, real Nuno Bettencourt kinda vibe from it. Anyways heres a pictar and Ill prob be micing it up later so I can post soundclips if anyone wants some:

If it's the 220 Volt model, and you're ever ever ever planning to sell it, I'll have it immediately. Well wear!

Yup its the 220v model with the 2.0 software. Dont see myself shifting it though, the drive channel on this is nothing short of spectacular! :)

Vai and Nuno both love this thing. It's one of the best pre-amps ever made.

Just won another gem off Ebay:

    mesastudioprea.jpg

I love the sound of old Mesa's. When this arrives (and when I manage to get a step down transformer from Maplins) I'll have quenched all my amp GAS :D Now onto effects!!

IIRC, inside in the M/B Transformer, it actually has voltage converters built in on the PCB, you need to desolder a single resistor from the 110v line, move it to the 220v line, and move the positive cable from the 110v line to the 220v line. About 10 mins work in total.

    Now THAT'S a preamp!!!!:D :D:D:D

The JMP-1 and ADA are toys next to that....;)

I had a borrow of one for a while, not too versatile, may as well be one-channel, but WHAT A CHANNEL:D :D I wants

(some Mesa do have multiple coil-taps in the transformers, not all. i'd look it up before doing anything. You almost certainly have to replace a few varistors and the fuse obviously)

How hard have you been looking?! There's always millions on ebay, usually in the E350-E400 range.

Part of my job is to watch Ebay (this is how I get so many good deals). Ill keep an eye out and pm you of any JMP-1 bargains I find.

Cheers Ned, Ill look into this and if its as straight forward as it sounds I'll go for it :)

Haha! Hopefully it will sound somewhat like those old Mark series amps, I played one and it blew away nearly every amp I've ever played.

Genuinely it's just stupidly good, ive been telling people for a while now to pick these up while the price is so good. It's more or less a IIC+ preamp section, not exactly, but close enough. Match it with a 6L6 power amp and you're right there in MarkII territory, but even with the EL84 ENGL, it should sound the sh1ts. :D

I think it'll make a great match/contrast to the JMP. That's as good a rig as anyone could want...

My Engl has EL34's which from what I gather are somewhat similar to 6l6's but with more midrange and a tighter lowend. I might be way off on this however as this is what I've gathered off the net and not through an A/B comparison with my own ears. Regardless I love how my Engl works with my other preamps so it should sound the sh1ts indeed :D Plus my Laney can take 6l6's with a minor bias tweak so I can always put it through that poweramp :)

Unless im mistaken your ENGL has EL84s and not 34's, both are pretty different to the 6L6 sound-wise.

I have/had a few EL84 power amps and combos, great power sections altogether (great for getting tonnes of saturation at low volumes), but a much brighter top end than a 6L6, and less bottom end.

I'd reckon the Studio would sound great through anything valve. I prefered it through the effects return of a 6L6 head than my EL84 power amp, but both sounded excellent.

Oh its on :p Im eyeing up a nice H&K Access preamp :D Failing that Ill prob try to find a Bogner Fish somewhere :)

The 830/50 has EL84's, the 830/30 has El34's :D I finally found a good comparison between 34's and 6l6's on the Mesa Boogie forum and you are right that they sound light years apart. I prefered the 6l6 clean but I love the mids in the 34's distortion and earlier saturation is great since I'll be primarily using this at home. So all is good in the world once again and the preamp is getting shipped tommorrow so I should have it by the end of the week :D

    Right you are I guess.

They're doing things backwards in the ENGL factory so... how you only get 30watts from 2XEL34s is beyond me..:D

Anyways, if that's the case, I reckon you'll be liking the Studio all the more...

You won't need a bogner fish with all those great preamps already, they're pure junk anyway, if you see one cheap just pass it on to me and i'll take care of it..:D
