A Bargain Alert if there ever was one.

Was in my local Tesco (Sligo) and one of the girls stocking bumped into me on her way up the store with a crateload of DVD's. She started loading them onto a shelf which was just emptied for the Paramount All Star selection but still had the old prices on there.

Saw some good films in there 'The Game', 'The Breakfast Club', 'True Lies' 'Happy Gilmore' but a new version of Mallrats caught by eye (with audio commentary by Kevin Smith etc.) to finally complete my Kevin Smith collection (all previously on VHS).

I said they might price it similarly to the Paramount ones (which were €9.95) so i grabbed it and went to pay.

The girl on the counter scanned it and said €4.95 - i thought bargain! She then said "wait, sorry....." (was sure she'd bump up the price to €9.95) but nope, she took a further 50% off it (making it €2.47).

Being an honest bloke, i said that can't be right and she said "nope, it was". Right enough, the receipt has the "50% Off Selected €4.95"

I only wish i bought more.. am going back in after work to stock up!

Don't expect them to last long!

Would you think this is on in all branches ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Hmmmm.... Tesco don't normally do stuff like this just in one branch.

Worth a look regardless if you pass a Tesco on your way home.

    Well went into tescos anyway
Nothing labelled on the shelves bought 4 dvd's for 4.99 each, checked the reciept when I got out and one of them was reduced to 2.49.
So seems to be a hit and miss.

Same as... none of them were priced on the shelves.

Bought Red Dragon and Scarface for €4.95 each.

Other titles in the mix (among the ones i said above) were: Kicking And Screaming, The Interpreter, Happy Gilmore, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Sting..

c - 13.. can you think of anymore?

    Ammm.....
    Pitch Black
    The Birds
    True Lies
    Backdraft

All somewhere between €2.49 and €4.99

If I can remember any more ill put them up....

Fair play, basquille. I got mallrats, true lies and the game. One was 4.99, two were 2.47.

Yeah, it'd be great if they actually had marked which were €2.47 and which were €4.95!

Am going back in tomorrow and might buy one or two more if they actually have prices on them this time.

Don't most Tesco stores have one of those scanning machines around the shop so the customers can check prices themselves?

You could bring a trolley load of them over and check them :)

Good point.. but they only have them in the actual grocery section of my local Tesco, not in the section with DVD's / CD's / toy's etc which is upstairs and through a set of security gates.

I'm afraid i'd hit the security gates going from upstairs to the grocery section with a load of DVD's.

I bought Scarface and a Will Ferrell movie (whose name escapes me now) for under €7.50! Both were priced 4.95, but one of them ended up half-price.

    Nice! :)

Kicking And Screaming? I know that was in it. I paid €4.95 for Scarface so Kicking And Screaming was probably half-price.

They're not advertising it really but if you stumble across a stall with any of the above titles.. odds are you've found the €4.95 / €2.47 DVD's section.

Yeah they had a decent enough selection of those DVDS in tesco Wilton the other day too.

Only strange thing was that whilst they were all priced 4.95e some of the prices labels were the yellow special offer ones stating the price at 4.95 each or 3 for 25e....

Bought The Birds today in there at 4.95

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

According to this mornings Metro, Tesco are shortly going to stop stocking DVDs, so maybe they're clearing them out?

Ah that would be a shame. :(

I bought Mallrats for 4.95 the other day, and had a Tesco Voucher of 100pts for any DVD purchase! :D So basically another euro off.
