rule: havin to declare raise instead of jus pushin chips over the line

once after the turn wit me to act first, i pushed all my chips over the line wit air knowin the dealer wud make me take them back nd check it.. the guy said he wasnt bettin into that (obviously afraid of the re-raise) nd checked givin me a free card.. didnt hit my draw but interestin way of gettin free card.

anyone else do sumthin similar in casino? that was in a ten euro tourney by the way, it'd be pretty unethical do it at cash table wit 1/3 blinds

    Is this a joke? Seriously:eek:
    Everything about this is wrong.
Why is it ethical in a tournament and not a cash game?? No really where are the cameras, this is a wind up.

Angle shooting is bad, and the game should be played in a better spirit than that imo. Also, I would like to know where this place is that you can't just put chips over the line without saying raise first, as I don't want to go there.

I see people who shout 'string raise' or similiar, when the intention is clear, and mostly now I keep quiet, whereas whne I was new to the game but 'knew' the rules I would probably have been shouting for this too. After a while playing the game it is a personal decision what type of player you are at the table in terms of manner, and I am sure there are merits to them all, in some respects at least, but it is nice to be nice.

Every game I've sat into in Dublin has 2/3 of these rule nazis trying to get an edge. In fairness, get a life and play the game.

Your angle shooting is takin' the p!ss tho.

Yep, I usually try to talk the dealer into allowing the first one if they aren't. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If a person does it, is warned and does it again though I have no problem being a Nazi on them, as it irritates me when people don't learn things like this even after warnings. you see some guys who do the same thing every time and get confused each time when told off. Annoying.

    Yep, thats true.
But when dudes berate n00bs who are just getting into the game, without explaining to them what they did worng, it really grinds my gears!

When did the Aces have this rule?? Only rule I've ever seen enforced was string betting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 986 ✭✭✭sock.rocker*

if u play the wed nite freeroll in 4aces, so many ppl are just there for the craic that they really enforce the rule bout betting (eg, if u throw in a blue chip worth 1000, it'll be counted as min bet of say 100). maybe some dealers enforce it more than others, i dunno but its def the rule from what i've seen

dunno bout the 35/65 euro nites, only played in the 35euro game once nd didnt see anyone forget to declare raise.. same in cash game that i've played

its nice to be nice, but its wrong to be too nice?!:(

that happened a mate of mine before in a tourney - on the river he planned on betting 5k, hoping for a call with his poker 8s; a 500 chip fell onto the table from his hand as he was placing his chips in the middle, and yer man called the string bet:eek:

my attitude is that its only a game, as long as things dont get out of control i've no intention of ever calling someone on minor infringements!:)

That's a different rule then the weird one you were describing earlier.

If you put in a thousand chip when there had already been a bet of 100 (or Big Blind), then it would be considered a call.

If you put in two or more chips (a thousand chip and a 25 chip for example) when there had already been a bet of 100, then it would be considered a raise to 1025.

If you put in a thousand chip when there was no action before you, it is considered a bet of 1000.

thats rough, also hate when people call for "time" on ppl blatently too early.. usually followed by "im here to play poker, not sit"

We don't have that rule here in the 4 Aces!! If the chips go over the line it's a bet..... *except for string betting*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 986 ✭✭✭sock.rocker*

yea im thinkin it must have been raised to me beforehand, then i pushed knowing it'd just be a call.. makes sense.
as i say, it was ages ago

    u a player in 4aces or dealer?

Pushing your chips over the line after a raise is not a call, it's a push.

You don't have to open your mouth.
