Norton firewall problem

    I recently bought an Acer laptop. It came preloaded with Windows Vista Home Premium and Norton Internet Security (90 day licence). I have left the software as loaded.

    I have an existing Linksys router connected to an ntl broadband inlet which I share with an XP desktop and an Ubuntu samba server without any issues.

    I cannot logon to my existing network from the Vista laptop as the Norton firewall seems to be preventing me. Can you suggest how I might edit the Norton settings to enable networking. I can access the Internet from the laptop.

    I would appreciate any assistance.

    Quick & easy solution;
    Uninstall Norton & all it's components, use the built in firewall in Vista instead.

    For anti-virus use Avast which is better, doesn't slow the system down like Norton and is free.

    With Norton gone you should have no trouble connecting to the network.

    If you really want to use Norton you will have to delve into the bowls of the programs firewall config and enable various settings try turning on enable file sharing that might lift the restrictions.

    I second that. Norton is such a resource hog, and the anti-virus isn't going to be much help. There are also far better firewalls out there, wait for Comodo to start working on Vista.

    Don't know the inner workings of Norton so cant be much help

    The solution to all Norton problems is to uninstall it. :D

    Symantec products=BLOAT. I only use ghost and Norton Removal Tool.

    Had an issue with NIS 2007 on a LAN in a hotel. Kept affecting local network access for their reservation software...even with the firewall turned off. Uninstalled it in the end!

    NO problems now!!!

    I am having problems with the Vista firewall. Every time I boot up I get a message that it has failed to start. The service is set to automatic. Any ideas?
