Im planning to build a future proofish! htpc over the next few months and am just wondering what would be the best motherboard and case be?

Looking for a case that supports at least 2 (ide) dvd drives and at least 4 (sata) harddrives. And a motherboard that has spdif built in and would support all the above drives at the same time if I was do install them all that is.

Case wise, would this be something I'd be after?

    Havent a clue about motherboards!

Well for 4 HD's then you will really want to go the full ATX route with a case. One other alternate suggestion a Shuttle as some of the latest models support up to 4 hard drives.

That Silverstone LC17 you linked to should do the job.

For motherboard well something like the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 should do the job according to Gigabyte it comes with SPDIF output though doesn't say which I think it's probably coaxial.

Add in a passive 8500GT with it's Purevideo VP2 decoder for HD-DVD/Blu-ray and your set.

i was actually looking at that card to put in a dell e520 which im using as a htpc atm but the heatsink looks very big and probably too big for the dell pc. Think i'll go risk free and get this one:

But will more than likely get that gigabyte 8500gt for my diy htpc for the hdcp support in case its ever needed.

    cheers for the links

btw is there something bad about this ram considering the price?

Nope the RAM is fine. The Asus one I saw as well the Gigabyte has a bigger heat sink so might keep it a little cooler but the Asus should do the job in a tight spot.
