Caffé Corretto

Got turned onto this when I was in Rome last year.

Its a lovely after-dinner drink. For those unfamiliar its an espresso corrected (corretto) with a shot of something. Typically it would be grappa or sambuca, personally I like grappa (a grape derived spirit ~ 40% - tasty).

Funnily enough I haven't done it since I got back, but I might make one now. Don't have any grappa or sambuca, I do have a strange Danish spirit though.

Will let you know how I get on.

I'm rather fond of some freshly ground Cubita with a shot of Havana Club as
an after dinner tipple. Baileys can also make a nice addition to a latte
for the lady friends ;) .

I DO have some havana club.

I may have both and I can compare.

    *goes to switch on Gaggia*

    Go Reactor ! ;)

Myself and some mates had a few shots at a barbie a couple
of weeks back... a perfect pick-me-up for the middle of a
    drinking session.

OK no1 down. I over-tamped the coffee (Illy) a little. But otherwise it was good. The spirit is called Aalborg Akvavit, and it compliments the coffee well.

On to the Havan Club (I have my doubts about this one).

OK, the Havana Club (3 years golden) is actually quite nice in the espresso. However, the second one was always going to have an advatage, as I've already had a drink.

Still I don't think either of them are as nice as grappa.

Opinions on the Havana combo probably depends on how much you like rum.
    It sure wakes you up!

Now see if there's any Kahlua and Baileys in the house.
Try a measure of each in one glass with espresso.

I have some cachaça, think I might have to give that a go... What do you reckon?

Good old 'Brazilian Sugar Brandy'. Not a million miles away from rum,
sure it wont kill you - and has to be better than flavoured beans,
worth a shot if you can excuse the pun :D

I've heard of the following combination but haven't tasted:
    # 1 espresso
    # 1/2 shot Kahlua
    # 1/2 shot Brazilian Cachaca
    # Sugar to taste
    # 1 spoon of cream

No Kahlua or Baileys. I don't consider them alcohol. I do have vodka, Jameson and tequila. But I think I've had my fill for now.

I encountered something similar in Girona a few years ago. They called it a trifasic (sic) (ph: treef-a-seek). I usually had it with Bailey's or whiskey. Just yummy and a great big kick!

I had a caffe coretto lately in Il Baccaro in Temple Bar (with grappa), very nice but nearly blew the head off me!
