Why is their so much coverage for the missing girl?

"Witnesses say they saw a girl who look like Madeleine leaving a Red Van".

What is stupid about reporting that? Hmm, em, let me see, if the kidnappers have a red van then they KNOW the police are onto them which I don't think is very good. Do you?

I hate the way that even though people go missing all the time, Madeleine is somehow extra special because her parents were extra stupid making it all the more extra tragic. If people care so much about her why don't they go looking for the thousands of other people missing?

It's ending up more tragic now that her kidnappers know every move of the police thanks to Sky News, yes Sky News, the SAME Sky News who followed every move of Holly/Jessica search a few years ago and gave the killer a chance to relieve the suspicion by getting interviewed by Sky News to say "oh this is terrible I'm going to help with the search".

Why don't they report her missing (in Portugal more so) to show her face and at the same time warn people of the dangers and leave it at that? An up to date search report is frustratingly stupid.

And I do hope she is found alive but I also hope the media STOP.

Come on lads, the more coverage this gets, the better chance we'll have of finding her...

    Actually thats right..

I got an email today saying that this girl has some strange thing with her eye.. and I just thought, "what the hell does this do with me? I'm not going to find her, and neither will anyone over here"

I mean, christ, she's received so much publicity that most people know what she looks like, so the chances of them getting out of the country and coming here are.. er .. small to none.

The media all over the world are just as bad. they just cant grasp the fact that some things are more important then selling a few papers or tv ratings. more then one VERY SERIOUS cases in ireland have been f**ked up over this sort of thing.

I saw a poster of her in Supermacs in town the other day  What are the chances shes in Ireland? Ill admit, in Burger King the other day I was sitting near a girl of around the same age the spit of her, but common sense broke in and told me shes not in feckin Dublin.

And before anyone gets excited I could hear her and the parents, they were all Irish. Still , I had to wonder if some gobsh1te had approached them and started screaming for the cops, she looked fierce like her.

Got that email aswell today. What am I supposed to do? Look at every little girl for extended periods of time to see if there's something up with her eye. I'd be locked up then.

I hope they find her and all, but seriously, how many children go missing in the Phillipines with child sex slavery, and yet that doesn't get a looking.. only barely.

the coverage is good. anyone who is old enough to remember when rory gallagher's guitar got stolen will remember the impact the media coverage had on that incident.

(ok so a guitar and a person arent the same but the principle of the saturation in the media has the same effect)

I blame the parents for leaving it unattended...

Never mind the Philippines, hundreds of children go missing who are in the care of the HSE every year - children whose parents have sent them alone as refugees to Ireland, or who are orphans and have made their way to this lovely Catholic country where children are safe...

No one does a thing about it; it's assumed that many or most of these children are trafficked into prostitution.

Even if the coverage from Sky News is annoying at times, (especially the way they keep repeating the same thing over and over) i still think they are right as as soon as they stop covering the story that will be that - people will soon forget.
As for saying you blame the parents for leaving "it" unattended i think its abit harsh. Its a simple fact that it is the media coverage of these events that actually brings about resoution in cases such as this. The British police and indeed it seems the Portugese police are experts on using the media to their advantage. For example in the Holly/Jessica case afew years ago - it was the media who first interviewed Huntley and when he famously said "they WERE lovely girls" - before they were even found dead - alarm bells rang and the police swooped in.
As annoying as the coverage is at times - this case is massive and Sky only show what the majority of people want to see.

If there's one thing this proves, it's that the power of prayer is overrated. A wall of prayer by millions has failed to move her kidnapper to send her back.

Ah lads, lay off. The amount of media coverage will help find Madeline McCann (hopefully). At least if people see something suspicious they can report it, whereas if they didn't know what she looked like, they could walk right past her and her kidnappers without blinking an eyelid. I know many kids go missing every year but if they can find at least one, then that's a good thing.

Plus, I mean Sky News is a British TV channel. A british family goes on hols and their child gets kidnapped - it is gonna be reported. It's all the more tragic since they are in a foreign country.

I know if I was one of the parents I'd be encouraging all this media coverage - at least people won't forget about her then.

NO. IT. WONT. how can media coverage over here possibly help?!
How can chain-emails help find her? or the "|x * . .♥ PUT THIS ON YOUR BEBO FOR DA SAFE RETURN OF MADELEINE McANN|x * . .♥"
on bebo/myspace profiles? Her kidnapers are not going to bring her over here! Theres something a little sick about the whole thing. Everyone seems to really love a good tragedy!
