Find a shop & try them both out - bat choice is all about feel. If you're very tall you might be better with a long handle, but other than that, it's totally up to you.

Go and get a Kookaburra Genesis. Ed Sports (in Pembroke Wanderers Hockey Club) have a few in stock. They weigh between 2-6 and 2-8 and are quite a chunky bat, but have an amazingly light pickup.

Ed Sports definitely has the best selection, and overall is the best place to buy cricket gear in Ireland. He has the smaller items there that you simply can't get in the other "sports" shops.

I am fairly intersted in this bat but is 2lb 6oz too light?

It is an excellent weight. I am a bit biased, as this is the bat that I use.

Although the bat is this light, it is still quite "chunky". Bats are getting bigger, but they are also getting lighter.

Why not go down to Ed Sports and have a look at the bats. I know he also has a kookaburra kahuna which is a little bit heavier, but still has a light pickup. He has some nice Gray Nicholls bats too, and some Woodworms which are very light.

This is the best advice you could get - bat selection is mainly about feel, and you can't judge that by thinking about weight or looking at photos. Get down to Ed's, grab each of the bats in turn, play a few air shots* and figure out which one feels best.

    * These are the shots I tend to play most!

Absolutely! Just go on to a sport's shop, pick up a bat, play a few shorts in air, the one that makes u feel comfortable and confident is the rite one for you. Good luck!
