dvd burner not recognised

When I go to burn a dvd in nero it wont let me select my dvd drive. Its greyed out. It worked fine before. I tried un-installing nero and re-installing but that didnt work. The same thing happened to a friend of mine but he cant remember how he fixed it. Any ideas??
