I'm importing a tractor into Ireland. I've emailed the revenue and i'm told i don't have to paid VATon a imported tracotor only a Eur50 VRT fee, But when a rang a dealer I was tolded I'd have to 17.5% VAT to import. Any commons, what I'm I missing here?? http://www.revenue.ie/services/vrt/vrtcom.htm

where are you importing it from?
is it brand new or second hand?
is VAT being paid on the tractor in the source country?

if importing a new tractor thats not been sold elsewhere then vat will have to be paid.

if importing a second hand tractor that has previously had the vat claimed back on it within the eu then vat will have to be paid.

if importing a tractor from outside the eu then vat will have to be paid, and probably duty too.

    make sense?
