    Back in the day I much preferred Sonic as a character.
    However I think the Mario games on the whole stand the test of time in terms of gameplay a little better (imo)

    Very close call though.

    Mario edges it. Sonic games are great fun, but they always suffered a little from the necessary schizophrenia of speed-based platformers; you can explore them or enjoy them, but not both.

    It's got to be Mario for me. The Mario games were just more immersive with lots more to do. He also had way more interesting power ups!

    Mario by a mile... Sure all sonic does is tear about the place at fast speeds, Mario can swim, jump on turtles heads, shot fireballs etc. Hero!

    i went with sonic, based on the 2d sonic games being more fun

    not necessarily better, just more fun, and thats what i look back on most fondly

    Excuse me! Sonic can swim....well, run along under water looking for bubbles of air. And he can drown. How's that for realism? Mario must have gills or something.
