    SNES or Megadrive?

this was inevitable, and oh so neseccary, considiring the latest threads. so vote for your favourite and mock those that oppose your view (just like in the early to mid 90's)

for me it was, and ever will be, the SNES. I have had it since 4th year in Primary school, and it takes pride of place at our tv in my college gaff. it will never die!

    What's a MageDrve? :)

Seriously though I can't answer this question. There should definitely be a 'I love both in equal measures' option.

snes all the way for me

had a master system and then a megadrive, and was a late adopter to the snes, but my god what a machine

SNES, it had the better games, but that isn't to say that the MD was without a whole heap of classics.

where's the fun in that. if you like both equally it makes you a bi-16bit-ual... how do you like them apples! :D

Then I guess that's what I am :D Ooh I feel so dirty!

If it makes any difference I preferred the SNES joypad.

If it weren't for some of the RPGs on the Super Nintendo, I'd be screaming Megadrive. Damn you Chrono Trigger!

    Feck it

    MEGADRIVE!!!

Def the SNES for me, bigger amount of great games and graphics; i.e. Mortal Kombat games looked too brash and choppy on the Mega Drive.

That said Mega Drive had great games too, though everything bar the console's sound chip sucked balls compared to the SNES.

Enhancments for 3D-ish games had to be bought = 32X System, etc
Whereas chips were added onto the carts for SNES = Super FX chip, etc

Oh and we can't forget the then advanced graphics of Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong series, etc.........

    I rest my case, m'lord.

I'm hard pushed to choose between them, but if it's only one then I'd have to go for the SNES - the Mario games have more replayability than the Sonic games for me, plus there's Super Metroid, Mario Kart, Star Wing and many many others.

I do remember feeling that the division between Nintendo and Sega fanboys was stupid at the time, since without the Megadrive I'd never have played Gunstar Heroes, a game whose sheer greatness still lures me back regularly years after I first played it. Or the splatterhouse series. Or-no, I won't start listing titles, we'll be here ages...

Sega had their own version of the Super FX chip. The Sega Virtua Processor (SVP). It's in Virtua Racing. Pity we didn't see more use of it. Made the games too expensive.

Am I the only one who found all this pre rendered stuff extremely ugly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

Pre-rendered games have dated really badly (meh, possibly bar the Kong series) Compare the Killer Instinct arcade & snes version, obviously MASSIVE graphical difference but after you play the arcade version the cracks in the SNES version explode open.

I forgot about the SVP chip too, my bad!

SNES, and thats based purely on the fact that more people i knew had it than the megadrive (i had neither :() Only knew 1 person with megadrive...

Mega drive for me, was a fantastic system. Robocop vs. Terminator was class on the mega drive, as was Zero Tolerance.

I agree mario is THAT much better:)

I thought the megadrive would destroy the snes in this poll because the megadrive had sold more here. Nintendo were never popular as over here as much as they were in the US and this leads to perhaps the reason they hate Europe. Why we get Wii and ds games later.

The snes was better for in-depth single player games like super metroid, super mario world and final fantasy

The megadrive is better for multiplayer like micromachines 96,sonic 2,streets of rage, golden axe, alien storm the list goes on.

16bit era was the best era.

Don't be saying things like that. You will trigger the' blood' argument again:)

    SNES.

    Better joypad.
Had an excellent batch of games that had arguably better graphics and better sound.

Still if I could have had, I would have had both!

Games such as Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country series, all the Konami shooters, Super Metroid, Zelda, Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasy series are still talked about to-day.

I voted for the megadrive (the poll is now 50/50 ooooooooooo)

I only ever had a megadrive but I played the SNES a couple of games.both are very good. I owned every Sonic game on the megadrive so I guess they were better than Mario:):)

I still play two player in Sonic 2, what a class game. Dont you just love the "slow down" in the cave level:0

And yes, the "blood" issue with the SNES just puts me right of. I mean RoboCop vs. the Terminator on the SNES, what a joke!!!

The SNES may had better graphics but didnt the Mega CD and 32X make up for that:eek:

I believe the official defiinition of multiplayer in the dictionary is 'Mario Kart'...
No contest here, SNES by a mile

I voted for the Snes because I spent days of my childhood playing it and with games like Mario World,Mario Kart,Mario All Stars its by far the best :D

Look up multiplayer in the dictionary and you'll find Street Fighter 2 and Bomberman long before Mario Kart :p

I always found Mario Kart a bit too slow paced.

Much prefer multiplayer Micro Machines myself.(Megadrive version only mind you, the others are pretty awful) More players supported. Gets a lot more frantic and seems faster placed.

I know alot of people really liked Sonic, but for the life of me i've no idea why  You just hold down the run button and he runs really fast through the level to the point where you can't really see whats going on, but it doesn't matter anyway because Sonic will just run right through enemies and collect most of the gold rings anyway :D
