I have a Gigabyte DQ6 mobo. It says supports up to DDR2 800. What if I give it a DDR2 1066 RAM. What happens?

Officially there is no such thing as DDR2 1066, so motherboard makers can only specify up to the 'official' top speed of DDR2 - which is 800MHz. DDR2 1066 will work OK in your board - check a few of the mobo forums for specific details.

Yup, as said, the official JEDEC standard only goes up as far as DDR2-800, anything above this is just overclocked DDR2-800.

Unless you are doing some SERIOUS overclocking, a decent set of DDR2-800 will do fine for moderate overclocking and is more than enough at stock speed as the 800 and 1066 will perform more or less the same.
