Watching GAA in the US - is Slingbox a good option?

Here's the problem: a friend of mine recently moved to the US. He is a mad GAA fan and really wants to watch the upcoming championship matches from there. Currently the only option is to crawl out of bed early on a Sunday morning, get to the nearest Irish pub with a setanta hook-up and pay the $20 in. He is looking for an alternative.

As far as I know, Setanta don't allow residential access, so he can't access the Setanta broadcast at home (legally anyway). I suggested using a slingbox hooked up to a TV aerial and DSL line here. The question that arises is what is the quality like? €250 is a lot to splash out without knowing whether it will work adequately. Does anyone have experience with this or would you be willing to run a demo to show what quality is possible?

Any alternate suggestions would be welcome.

GAA is on Setanta Premium only which is only available to clubs/bars. The GAA on Setanta broadband seems to be PPV.

Slingbox is a good option - Quality Is great - Slingmedia software uses bandwidth very efficiently - Provides the option to access all channels that are available at slingbox source location.

You can also get the same quality with a pair of PCs and free VLC, Unreal Server or MS WME9. probabily better as you can easier tune it to your available BB bandwidth.

You do need BB at both ends. Only run it for what you REALLY want to watch or you will have no bandwidth left.

Remember it is the UPLOAD speed here than is the limit. 128k is poor. 256k is not bad if watched 1/4 VGA. 512k is watchable full screen. 1M needed for near TV quality.

PPV from the Setanta website may be the best option. $14.99 per month is a good price. Thanks for all the replies.
